Starter Motor Assembly
« on: August 06, 2014, 05:49:26 PM »
I'm putting the starter back in my 75' CB750 and looking at the manual and online it seems I'm missing the plate that goes over the reduction gear on the pinion. When I got the bike from the PO the starter worked as it should have. I don't remember taking a plate off of the reduction gear when I took the starter out, so I'm wondering if not having the plate over the gear will allow too much movement of the gear. Any thoughts? Am I safe installing the started without the plate? For reference, I'm talking about part number 3 in this diagram: http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/1975-honda-cb750k5-starter-motor/o/m9236sch400433
Thanks.

Well I put it back together as-is. Used Right-Stuff brand sealer, boy is that stuff nice to dispense with the trigger. I'll try starting her up tomorrow after letting the gasket cure and post how it works out not having the washer/plate over the reduction gear.
