CB400f Before and After NZ
« on: August 08, 2014, 06:13:16 PM »
Here is my 1975 CB400f before and after a yearlong rebuild, kept the bike standard with lots of NOS and a few remanufactured parts.
I do have pictures of the rebuild if anyone is interested. I don't think there a many of these bikes in New Zealand and I guess not in this condition I’ve very much enjoyed the rebuild.

Before (Hmm like the exhaust & colour)

After a years work

Bloody beautiful Chris!  And you painted her the best colour as well mate! (I'm a bit biased as I had a blue one when I got my license in '77)

Are they NOS exhaust headers & muffler?

Sensational job mate - congratulations.

Thanks for the comments, I have spent a bit of time and effort on the bike, oh I forgot this is my first restoration I have done!

Russ the pipes aren’t original Honda parts the headers are made by Motad and the silencer is made by Brituro Engineering Ltd, both are companies in Birmingham UK and are direct replacements.

Beautiful restoration.  Amazing transformation.  I'd love to see some close ups of the exhaust system.  I checked their site for one for my own 400F, but they said they were out.

What did you do to get the engine that bright?

Hello

The engine was fully rebuilt and while apart the cases were bead blasted and then etch primed then painted (in a bake oven) all the bolts and screws on the engine are original and were re-plated in “blue zinc” a lot of work but worth it in the end.

Interestingly Honda did not factory paint the lower engine case just the top engine case and up, perhaps they were worried about stone chips chipping the paint on the lower case? I did paint both upper and lower case.
