650 or 550 cam chain tensioner
« on: August 09, 2014, 11:37:45 AM »
In my quest to find a new/used cam chain tensioner for my CB550, I ran across a CB650 version.  It was practically unused and to all appearances looked identical except for the means of keeping the tensioner - tensed.

My question, which actually does a better job?  I notice that while the CB650 tensioner looks the same, it isn't.  The tensioner bolt is about 1mm away from where it should line up  :'(.  However that really doesn't present a challenge if a need to retrofit arises.

Ultimately my question is which tensioner actually generally works better?  The one for the CB650 has a very simple mechanism, whereas the one for the CB550 has that funky gear system that really doesn't work all that well (in my experience).
