Oil Pan Mount broke
« on: August 11, 2014, 05:38:34 PM »
Well, I guess my build is over before it actually began, I was changing the oil on the bike when I went to "tighten" I say that loosely, cause it wasn't even fully snug yet, and it just broke.  Any ways of fixing this?  I'd say its tried to be fixed before cause what I thought was old oil build up on this outside is actually solder...... If theres no real "easy" fix besides a new engine I'll just have to part it out.

The part the break is on is called the oil pan. IT can be removed with 10 or so bolts. Its a flat piece of aluminum about 6" x 9" or slightly more. You can take it to be properly repaired or just get a good used one off eBay for $30 or LESS.

Back in business, This is not a big problem.

That oil drain boss is often stripped/broken by people overtightening the drain bolt and/or not using the proper crush style sealing washer.

That's Rider, that's the research I've found as well.  Guess I jumped to conclusions.  Things are adding up and I need to decide if  Im going to throw a ton of cash into it or just be rid of it.  Im glad I didn't completely kill the motor though :)

My bike had the hole welded shut when I got it, either take it to somebody who can weld aluminum or get a new pan, break like that seems to be quite common.

Welded oil drain can be drilled and tapped to work as oil drain again, thats what I did.
