Picked up this 75 550! Video & pics
« on: August 11, 2014, 02:03:03 PM »
I picked this up last night for a decent price. I have been going through 550 withdrawal while building my bored 605. This is in really good shape. Battery was dead. I slapped in a new one and she started up. Weird as every bike I've bought minus my first 550 didn't run.

The good is the tank is like new inside.  Has a kerker exhaust although the hole. The muffler will need to be replaced but that isn't a need. The chrome is like new.  All electrical works! Nothing cut up. Seat is absolutely flawless even the underside....

Bad is the electric start makes a funky noise. The the clack clack but a winding. Also the carbs need to be gone through but it does run and I took it around the block already.

Here is the link of the first start.

nice looking bike Tews!

how did it ride around the block?  may be just float stuck, tap it with rubber mallet and see if it stops.  if it rides good, don't touch the carbs yet.

may need new starter motor???

Force of habit as I pulled the carbs. Looks really good minus the gooey gunk around the gaskets. I'm giving them the once over and will do the 3k tune up next. Gold if you have or come across green side covers I would be interested in buying.

Looks great Tews, but crappy video! Full tune up should take care of that chain noise.

I have every other color except it. Its like some sort of sick game.

I about to find someone to trade side covers and a tank with me at this point.

Very nice bike!  You made a great score.  My 75 550K1 color was Candy Jade Green.   I have always been under the impression that Freedom Green Metallic was only available in 1974 on the K0.  In my opinion the candy was much nicer than the metallic but your mileage may vary.   :)

I think Lone X is right, it's a '74.   And prolly a '75 title, pretty common.

Built date is probably late 74, makes it a 75 MY. Tank and blinkers say so

Freedom Green was a '74 color, sure it's not Jade?

Most likely it's Jade Green, just faded.  Mine faded pretty badly due to setting in the parking lot at work in the hot Texas sun almost every day for a decade until I painted the tins with gloss black automotive lacquer.  From the video yours looks a lot like mine did before I painted it.  The tins will be repainted Jade Green eventually.  Loved that color.
