Black, black black... Really sick of that color
« on: August 11, 2014, 02:34:38 PM »
Seems like every bike I've owned has been black - who's fault is that!  I'm vowing that the next bike I buy will not be black, it will be some color that doesn't look dark, but at the same time doesn't make me look like a motorcycle cop.

Anyone else here on board with the desire to not ride a black bike?

I do not own an all black bike-really do not like  the way the bike blends into the road, especially at dusk.  My bikes are usually red(because red adds at least 10hp :P), white, silver or yellow.  There have been tests done that show one is more likely to get  into an accident on a dark vehicle.  Also my riding gear is either red or yellow, bad part is the cops can pick me out from a mile away.   Down with black :D ....Larry

bright color vehicles tends to get into more tickets??? especially the red ones cuz they're 10hp more powerful???  ;D

because a red vehicle is inherently faster or course one will get more tickets.   I have only had one speeding ticket in my life, and I usually ride 10mph over the speed limit, on ratty old Yammie TX500 of all things.  I  was riding with traffic and for some odd reason I was the only vehicle pulled over, also happened to be the only motorcycle in the group. That is in 40 plus years of riding btw...Larry

Just tried to sell my "yellow" cb 750k. Everyone loved the bike, hated the color!!!!

Can't win, Bob

I pieced it out, sold about 8 parts, and sold the rest for $650. Always hear about guys wanting to buy bikes on this forum, but when the time comes nothing. Had the bike for $2,000. Put $3,000 into it. If they hated the paint so bad, repaint it. So I'm done, I'll ride my BMW R1200c and be happy. Thanks for all the help guys.

I would love to have a yellow motorcycle..  I can have a yellow motorcycle, of course it wouldn't be period correct for a CB550 K, but hey - it's my bike I'll do what I want to it.

I have been swapping tins on  scrambler 1 and the tank I use now has been primered in black. I can see where I chipped the bondo out of a crease that it is the same blue/white graphics.

I have a three tanks including the primered one that are or were the original '74 blue and white, but I want to save the best one for if I ever show the bike.  If I put it on I will dent it is my luck.

Just saw this on c.l.

The gas pool is especially nice.

(I'm assuming that's gas overflow from the carbs)

Petcocks are good for that problem. I try to make it a habit to shut it off.

Mine would have a float  valve stick, then I'd pull the bowl, fiddle with it, blast it with berryman's and put it back on and it would quit. Then it would do it again an hour later.   It has new float valves and the floats are in good shape, and the gaskets are out of the way of it operating correctly so it was a mystery.

It seems to be better now, not sure if that's the high concentration of carb cleaner I'm running or not, but sure kills the fuel economy when it does that.

I always use the petcock.  I have never had luck getting a good consistent float shutoff seal.  Seems like it works, holds gas for a while, then <dribble dribble dribble> and I have to reach down and rap the bowl with my knuckles.

Joys of riding an older motorcycle. ::)

You gotta admit black goes with anything, though.   My wife has a red bike and when I rode it with my green overall, she said I looked like Christmas.

Paul

It's not a side stand, it's for the flames out the exhaust. The petcock is totally plum-brat.

When I bought this the first thing I said I would do was change the color.....not any more...everywhere it gets parked people love it and comment on the color. I'm in the planning stages of a rebuild that will include GSXR front end, trick shocks, black laced wheels with 120 and 160 rubber front and rear, but the yellow will stay.....
