Dropped my CB750
« on: August 12, 2014, 07:34:59 PM »
First time dropping in 2.5 years of riding.

I should have been scanning ahead better, but to my defense, it's VERY hard to have seen this debris. I tend to pay more attention to vehicles/bikes/pedestrians rather than staring at the road. After work, I rode right back and it was still there, waiting for another motorcyclist to wreck.

I took this picture at 6:00pm, but I was traveling down the same road at 8:30am. Try to think of it being darker and most everything has a shadow casted. I bet you wouldn't see it either:

As I was traveling (I was going really slow since I was approaching a stoplight), all of a sudden when stopped I felt my bike slide going at NO speed. And over I went. I had no #$%*ing idea what just happened. Took a picture at what caused me to go down (after I kicked the stupid piece of #$%* across the road):

I don't even know what this is. It slides around on the road like it's black ice and it's about 2mm thick, and it's black.

Damage to my bike:

Almost all of the damaged was sustained by Franken's side cover.

Oil tank which was perfect before and it now has a dent in it:

Other than that, the foot peg needs to be replaced. Really, no other damage so I got considerable lucky. No damage to me, or my clothing.

I have $100 comprehensive insurance. I can foresee about $300 in repairs, not including replacing the oil tank (which I may just leave alone). Do you guys comprehensive will cover this or is a joke to call State Farm and ask? That piece of debris is still out there and it will cause ANY bike, to go down.

Would you guys replace the oil tank?

Sorry to hear Fenders, but why'd you ride on that?!! Can't imagine not seeing it.

Don't file a claim, you don't want this on your record.  As good as condition as your bike was, replace all damaged parts including the oil tank.  Good time to upgrade both side covers if the L one is original.

Yep. I plan to actually make the bike BETTER than it was before. I've already started to sand the headlight bucket for a nice repaint. I plan on also replacing the tank trim, even though those things have had nothing to do with the drop. So the bike will be better than ever. But it's just annoying that this happened. I made a conscious decision NOT to drive my CB450 that morning. Believe me, if this happened to my CB450, I would be crying like a little girl all day long.

Now you guys know why I will be buying a KLR for commuting purposes. :)

Trust me, that damned black thing on the black road in a black shadow was VERY hard to see. That road has about 4 intersections in about 50 yards. I'm constantly looking and interpreting the vehicles at the intersections rather than staring at the asphalt looking out for stupid #$%* like this.

Ugh. I've already phoned my painter. "bring in anything you want redone".

Both side covers were franken's covers. They were unbelievably strong..I'm surprised they didn't shatter. He was such a nice cat that he sent me a replacement. Just need to do the body work and drop it off at the paint shop. Already have a new foot peg mount on the way.

I have a good K7 oil tank off the same bike as the grab bar. I'm going out of town for work, so it would be over a week before I could ship it.

If I was standing next to it close enough to take a picture, I reckon I'd pick it up and get it off the road.

Yea. In the morning I threw it on the sidewalk. In the evening, it moved back in the road. I think there's someone out there who hates motorcyclists. :(

There's your first mistake.....

Now you guys know why I will be buying a KLR for commuting purposes. :)

And here i was thinking you were the best rider on the forums Fenders.  ::) There are lots of things that happen when riding that are hard or impossible to see, Quite a few of us tried to tell you this not that long ago but you blabbed some sh1t about us being poor riders and you've done 3 or 4 or whatever driver training sessions and you know everything blah blah blah and we were all "scare mongering"  blah blah blah,  maybe being a little more humble and taking advice and listening to people with a HELL OF A LOT MORE EXPERIENCE is a better course of action instead of flirting with fate and big noting yourself , not to mention bullsh1tting about how long you've been riding on the road for, remember you've put it all here on the forum, But of course, this wasn't your fault, it never is... ::).... Go look up peripheral vision and learn to use it, you should have seen that on the road regardless of what you say. Now rant on all you like but i really don't care because what we were trying to tell you, through your chest beating belligerence and poor attitude, was in fact correct, I knew this would happen, it was only a matter of time, what i didn't expect was that it would happen so quick...{actually, it doesn't surprise me at all and after what you've said, i wouldn't have told anyone here, I'm already getting PM's about this thread  ;D}
Before you come back and blurt out your  reply, go back and reread what you recently said in the other thread Fenders, i still don't think you'll get it though.... Oh and get you silly ass back down to where you fell off and pick that sh1t up off the road before it actually kills someone, i can't believe you left it there...  {shakes head}

Just so you know, i'm glad you didn't hurt yourself but i hope you learned a very valuable lesson....

What retro said.
You really set yourself up for that.
Now cop it on the chin and move on, and learn from it.

Can't believe you acknowledge that the debris could kill someone and all you did was kick it across the road and leave it there.....good on ya.

You said it...."it happens to all of us".....and that's just the point....fenders never thought it would happen to him cos he is ace and all his professional riding buddies taught him to ride and he was convinced he'd never have an accident cos he 'knew' the RIGHT way to ride...
You need to know the history behind this to appreciate the irony.

Kudos to Fenders for admitting he is fallible like the rest of us after all.
But WTF ?

Leaving the item in the knowledge that it posed a risk to others ???? Crazy, that.

First time dropping in 2.5 years of riding.
Based upon everything you've written prior and within this thread about your "technique", I shudder knowing all too well that this will become a regular occurrence for you.

Took a picture at what caused me to go down (after I kicked the stupid piece of #$%* across the road):
Further evidence of your narcissism. Whether it caused you to go down or not, that you didn't immediately pick it up to prevent someone else form going down, is just plain unforgivable. That you did drop your bike, and left it, is despicable.

I too am very relieved to  hear that you are uninsured, but hopefully, this gentle riding "bump" will not prove to you that you still have tons to learn, and that your disposition needs tuning as well.

Please ride safely henceforth.

fenders, hate to hear when any member has a accident. Most important is you weren't hurt and your 750 has only minor damage. But to be honest I can see why your getting some negitive press here about this thread and past one's.

Obviously, I have nothing to add anymore. Constantly being condescended. I even have people literally stalking my posts.

There are some old men 'round here that are just absolutely out of control that deserve a mouthful of teeth.

Peace. I'm out. I'll take my experiences elsewhere, especially to a place that can actually read ("he left it out there for someone else wreck.") the problem is that people read what they want here.

Don't even bother replying, I won't read it.
