Trust me, hard weld and machining cams is a service that we send off for. MegaCycle, webcam, delta, places like that. You aren't going to do this at home with a MillerMatic and a bench grinder :-)

Ahhh gotcha.  Anyone know the best way to remove that corrosion on the covers?  I think they will clean up nicely!

Aircraft stripper. Follow directions on the can...... Then I use a fine brass wire wheel on my bench grinder. Follow it up with 3 stage polish.

And if anyone had a extra second, take a look at my thread in "other bikes"  I seem to have hit a wall and don't know where to go from here.  Link...     http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=140114.0

If you start needing money and have an extra front fender that is in good shape, shoot me a message.  I'll gladly buy one from you.

I'm looking for a good front fender for the restoration my son is doing on a 78 750K (I'm assuming the 750 and 550 fenders are the same....someone please correct me if that isn't the case).

Pretty common part though I'm not sure about the 750 being the same size.  Someone on here should be able to help you no problem,  Best advice I can tell ya is get a build thread going and don't look back.

Tyler - any chance either of your bikes came with a complete airbox assembly? If like to borrow one for a project to recreate it out of carbon fiber. But I need the whole assembly to understand how to re-mold it.

YES!!  That would be sweet, especially if you can make it bigger and for other carbs!!

Meaning the bob the air filter sits in? or the air box boots to the Carbs?...I have both

I think he'll need both to design a complete box.  WOW, this is picking up momentum quickly!

Down boy. Just spitballing... May be easier to complete than my disc rear. The 4-axis CNC is under a contract job until late October, unless I want to pay $1500 an hour. No thanks, I'll wait.

Yeah.  We've all waited 30 plus years.  We can wait another couple of months.

Bad news guys, can't get my hands on the other 550 that I want the engine out of  for the 500 until next week now due to scheduling conflicts:(

Good new is I am picking up this cool little Cl175 tomorrow for hunting and camping!  Don't need another bike, but this will be a fun project to get running and looking good.  Cant beat a 50$ complete bike!

Got to work disassembling the 500 engine.  Was actually easier then I thought it would be, Pretty cool to see how all this goes together and Im learning a lot!  Whats it look like to you guys?

I post a lot of pictures of my bikes and my shop on Instagram, and a friend of mine showed one of his friends some of my pictures, He was like " Hey I have one of those sitting in the garage!"  and his friend got ahold of me.  It will be my first twin, but I think some decent Renthal dirt bike handlebars, a little touch up and some off road tires it will make a decent hunting buddy.  Ill start a thread about it.  But right now my focus is the engine swap of the 550 I pick up next week into my 500 and then touch up areas around the bike.  Not sure what I'm going to do with the purple 550 right now :o

NO go on the Ct175 Guys,  That was a piece of junk, literally.  Holes in the tank, cracked lower engine case, no spark plug wires or plugs, seat was bad, frame was rusty!  Wasn't even worth the 50$  Sometimes ya just gotta pass:(

Not a part that didn't need replacing or fixing, not sure it was worth anything.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I have a question.

You're taking these bikes apart to get them into your basement and said that taking the engine out made it light enough to carry down the stairs.  So how do you plan to get them out of the basement once they're restored and reassembled?  ::)
