1983 CB1000C - mine all mine!
« on: August 20, 2014, 03:11:55 PM »
Picked this beauty up last night for $2200. 30k miles, has new fork seals & battery. Cosmetically 9/10. Dude I bought it from found out he had cancer right after he bought it from his brother three years ago, and has since put a whole 45 miles on the thing. It pulls strong (really strong!) but the slow jets have crud in 'em from sitting so long so I'm gonna have to pull the carbs. Probably should have paid a couple hundred less for it, but he needed the money and I still think I got a pretty good deal.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

I would say you did ok Tug. Bike looks in good shape. Ive seen several nice ones in my area for around $2500. Doesn't the customs have a ten speed trans and a drive shaft. Looks like it would be a good cruiser and comfortable for longer trips.

Yeah man, Lo & Hi sub-transmission that was used to get the output of the motor over to the right side, since they used the entire back-end of the GL1100 and the drive shaft is on the right. Discovered the original tool kit last night, along with this cool lil' trinket.

The #1 airbox-carb boot had been chewed through, and the #2 was clamped down incorrectly so I'm going to have to replace those. The inner two boots are NLA, but I found a whole airbox assembly with the boots on ebay for $35. Picked up some new plugs for it and some oil, and I'm going to run some Seafoam through the carbs and see if that doesn't clean em out a bit. Taped over the hole in the boot so at least I'm no longer pulling in air from there. Otherwise this is probably the nicest bike I've ever had.

Most of those ended up with fairings etc and if removed need to have parts sourced. Nice you found a nice unmolested 'still naked' example.
