72 cb500 throttle cable issue
« on: August 13, 2014, 06:18:05 pm »
Hey guys...having a Hell of a time with my throttle cables. I noticed the old pull cable was starting to fray and the push cable was missing. I ordered both new cables and have installed them. I can't find the middle ground to where the throttle is easy/has little resistance. Or if I do, when I turn the bars the throttle gets very hard to pull...what am I doing wrong?!

It sounds like they may not be routed correctly. And you have the adjuster nuts at the carbs double-nutted and adjuster properly for free travel and maximum lift?

Well I'm not sure of the proper route so that could be a problem...
The nuts should be tight against the brackets near the throttle plate?

Also, I have short cafe style bars, will that make a difference on my throttle cable length?

Yes, shorter bars need shorter cables.

First measure the ones you have. Then you can order Motion Pro cables by length from a variety of online parts places. I use www.cognitomoto.com, other use dimecitycycles.com, 4into1.com, cyclexchange.net, etc...

Send Devin at cognitomoto.com (use sales@cognitomoto.com) an email. He will know exactly.
