New member of the garage just added
« on: September 05, 2014, 04:06:05 pm »
I just picked up this rusty diamond in the rough for $400 and a pink slip.   I'll call her "winter project".  The person I bought it from stashed it in a public storage facility for about 1-2 years.  He says the engine turns and all it would need is a battery and a set of headers/exhaust.  We dug her out and put her on my truck.  He says he could have parted it out and made more money so he made me promise that I wouldn't part it out.  I told him that this would be a project for me and my two boys (5 and 8 years old).  The bikes rough but I think she has potential. Here are some pics.  The outside is a rusty oily mess.  the tank is clean on the inside.  First thing i need to do is get this bad boy running.  Get off the injured reserve and get it back on the road.

I think you got a good deal - and parting it out would not make him rich for sure.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks.  I plugged a battery in from my other CB550 and most of the lights still work! These things are solid!

Tell me about. Get this I was reading up on starting an sitting engine.  It recommended removing the spark plugs and placing some engine oil into the chamber which I did.  then put the spark plugs back in.  I gave it about 20 cranks and the darn thing started up! It ran for about 10 seconds and sped up and died.  I'm happy about that.  At least I know that the fuel is getting to the chamber.   Any suggestions on keeping it idling - will be my next thread.
