Can you let us "low techies" know your thoughts on the charts above?

I'm sitting in the bleachers also Steve.  ;)

In the first picture we are looking for the second picture. (pic title "all runs", "sample count", "target")

As you can see with this chip blue is lean, red is rich and yellow is good. The first picture is a combination of all log files taken. Eight (8) in total. (all runs, mostly lean)

Took me about an hour to swap chips this morning. Next is to get the same sample count as before. Highway blast, cruise and in town. After that I send all log files across the pond and all data is combined for a new chip. Yes, the bike will be torn down again to replace the chip.

The sample count in the bottom of the first picture reads how long I was in a certain throttle position thus the more cells I fill the better it is. This is why I need to be in as many different positions as possible.

We did not change the trim pot setting. (last picture) Adjusting the trim pot would void all the previous log files as this would change the fueling. The trim will be adjusted when the new chip arrives with a different map and that should be the last time trimming the pot.

Hope this clears things up for you. I'm confused now.  :D

Ok, chip is way lean at idle. 14 to 15 +/- but smooths out off idle. Short blast tomorrow. The trim pot needs backed off but a new EPROM is on its way.

We will wait until it arrives, back the trim and run log files. I was told we were getting close. I hope so.

Update: I'm on the wrong page. Not surprising.  ::)

Going back to the second eprom, swapped out yesterday. I need four or five runs to compare data with the custom chip and trim pot adjustment.

So, the first picture shows the reference to pot settings. The second pic (small) was where my trim pot was set. The third pic is where I had to go to get 13.2 AFR. (notice white dots in the pot) This obviously is lean.

Adjusted pot towards rich (pic four) per Adam's test eprom. This gives a richer idle condition. (last pic) We will have to find a happy medium between idle and off idle. We have +0.8 afr @ idle, +0.7 afr @ midrange with this trim pot setting.

I'll run log files, send him the data, merge two eproms then burn a new one.

We should then have a good map.

OK, if anyone is following along while you are adjusting your idle screw here is where we are.

Ran three (3) log files today with the trim pot turned back. (picture one)

As you can see the AFR is off of very lean to a little on the rich side. (picture two)

And below is the email I received from Adam after reading of all log files. (eighteen to be exact)

Good to hear..

Leaning the idle off a little with a new map will drop the idle a tad..

See attached AFR and Sample count for the last 3 runs

It is running a little rich which is what I guessed it would although, not as much as I thought it was going to be.

I should now have enough data to build a new fuel map for you.

My software will compute the new map based on these runs.

Because we ran both the eproms and the pot change, we have some good data points that were spot on AFR.

I can cross reference these values with what my software computes and adjust accordingly.

Your work is done.

 Cheers

Adam

Sounds like good news and that you are fortunate to have Adam help you out.

How did you connect with him?

Sounds like good news and that you are fortunate to have Adam help you out.

How did you connect with him?

Connected on the MV Agusta forum. Adam builds and sells the data logger. (plugs into ECU test lead, reads data to a SD Card. Data then displayed on software)

Yes, could not do this without him. Do you think a shop would/could do this? Nope.
Easier just to "sell" a eprom, label it race and hope it works on your bike as it is a "general" eprom with very few changes.

Here is a little background from an email I received from him.

tt

Try this.

 You buy a new MV F4 1000 in 2006

You ride it, it is #$%*e

 No one knows anything

You get a PowerCommander and set it up, but fueling is only half the problem.

You look for a programmable ecu – one shop says he will be doing them soon

 2009

It takes him 3 years !

And he wants $2500 – stuff that

Meanwhile, I have studied and learnt the ecu coding, understand and work out a lot of the maps.

Start mapping, takes a year to get all my software and hardware sorted.

Find a friendly dyno that will allow me to run it to set up and check the top end

Much better but still problems with the engine braking system and transients.

 2010

More studying, work how to re write the actual ecu program, not just the data

 Gave up for a year

2012

Re write the engine braking code

 2013/14

Still not happy with the initial ‘pull away from the lights’

Figured out that MV have put some code in to stop you flipping the bike in 1st gear but it is much too flat

Re-wrote that code and a few other bits

Built the logger so I could log easier and be able to help others.

2015 – helping others, and no I’m not retired.

 SEPTEMBER !!!!!

so despite the fact that you have never opened the throttle more than 60% are you now happy that the fuel map is perfect toysuff ?

???

There were several WOT positions. If Adam is happy, I'm happy.
