I am enjoying following this, but mostly because it is somebody else's time and $$.

You spent a lot of money for an essentially brand new bike and have had to invest a lot more in specialized tools, diagnostic work plus all your time. I just can't imagine that. Me, I spend that kind of cash on a new bike I expect to turn the key and enjoy.

I'm thinking retirement (and all that heat) has softened your brain a little TT. :)

While some of this may be frustrating, it will be very satisfying once you iron out the kinks. They're phenomenal bikes and resurrecting one to proper performance will be a great deed!

It could be worse; it could be an AMF Harley  :-\

It was frustrating but after second guessing everything with the New Year it's my 2015 project.

I am learning a lot but there is a lot I don't know.  ::)

 ;D ;D ;D

Well, it wasn't a new bike purchase thank GOD. It was sold with no issues but they, like most, don't have a clue to begin with. Cost hasn't been to bad but I did just order some sweet carbon fiber for a few areas.  ;)

Welding the bung is costing nothing. Bung was 3 bucks. Wideband was only $148.00 shipped with Bosch sensor. Pretty cheap compared to some. Logger was $200.00 but a quick seller on the forum. Fuel line was $30.00 for a foot.  :o  Replaced stock tires with Dunlop Q3 for $250.00. Would of done that anyway. Fluid change was just time. Have plenty.

Yeah, I'm soft in the head alright but busy as can be since retirement. Wouldn't go back however.  :P

I think tt likes a challenge, restoring old Hondas got to be boring for him.

Keep at it, tt, I'm confident you'll get there and have an awesome bike to ride just in time for the 120 degree summer...ha!

I enjoyed working on the previous bikes but instead of buying anything that came along I want certain models now. I will buy another project if it's the right bike.

Naw, I'll have this running good before then. Mid February at the latest unless another issue appears.

It's obvious this problem was from day one as I suspected. Given what the original owner told me it verifies this. Why remove and clean injectors when there are no miles on the bike? Bozo's with no clue.

We might send the 910R EPROM over the pond, install, run log files then send everything back. Make fuel map changes and send it back again.

Adam has been great on this and isn't charging me anything for the work other than the logger purchase.

Just time. I have plenty. Only wore a watch twice in 2 years.  :P

May need a "trim pot" adjustment as seen in last picture. (next to the EPROM)
I would have tried that first: given it's an open-loop system, perhaps they leaned it out to pass emissions, while giving the end user some adjustment range to correct the issue?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

You could but how would you know the correct setting? Without a wideband AFR it's just a guess.

The idle trimmer is a little metal square just next to the eprom with a plastic rotating pot inside. This adjusts the idle mixture, working the same as the electronic idle trimmers in the 1.5M and 5.9M ECU. It adds or subtracts a given pulse width from the map fuel number across the whole map, therefore having a much greater percentage effect at small pulse widths.

Back then the manual says to use a gas analyzer for CO% readings. Old school stuff. (picture) Before doing anything to the trim we need to know the fuel map. Given the eprom that's in it we need to check that first or put a factory eprom, which we have. (In the UK)

So, to use the wideband controller we need to weld a bung in the mid pipe, install the Bosch sensor and read the AFR. Once that is done the wideband can be hooked to the data logger recording the AFR thru the entire range to a log file as shown in previous posts.

Any changes to the eprom has to be burned. With a Microtek ECU this can be done via laptop but it comes as a huge cost thus going this route first. Logger and wideband easily sold on forums.

With an open loop system it's always a calculated guess. ;) So the stock ECU only has the RPM and TPS for the major inputs? No MAP or MAF sensor?

Remember one thing here. It's Italian! Nothing is normal. Only the Wine!

Oh, we have a sensor for the timing, a IAT sensor, water temp sensor, sensor for the cooling fans, side stand sensor, neutral sensor, blah blah blah.  ;D

This is a print out from a PDF file before buying the books. There are more pages but you get the idea.

Boy, am I glad this is over! Living in a construction zone since the day after Christmas. Good Lord. The walk in shower is wonderful however. Took a couple of days just to clean up the mess. 26 foot wall on Tuesday but I hired that done.  ;)

With Doctors appointments and such there was no time to work on the Brutale other than a little morning time. Mid pipe comes tomorrow with the bung welded in so I can get the exhaust mounted up on Sunday. The logger has arrived in the UK but that will be another couple of weeks before it returns.

I did manage to get the matte finish CF installed. So much better than the factory plasitic. I had to wait for the matte finish but given the frame is flat black as well as other tid bits on the bike I'm happy with it. Rear hugger, chain guard and front fender air damper. A rear seat cowl is also ordered but 5 weeks out.

Tomorrow is "dedicated Ducati day." A long ride and some coffee stops with friends. Looking forward to it. 70 degree weather makes it all the better.

I sure don't envy you on that project. Get's expensive when you start upgrading a few things but use porcelain tile. It's a little higher on price. We also went with cigar trim, center tile strip and two corner shelves. Replaced both toilets with comfort height models and new shower doors in both bathrooms. Installed a few handles as we are not getting any younger.  ::)

Hard to take full pictures but you get the idea.

Ducati ride cancelled due to Wind Advisory. Gust to 32 mph already.

Fooled me! I would of swore a lean condition.

I have read the eprom and compared it to the standard one I have – yours is a little richer at the lower end.

Again, I’ll go right through it over the w/e

Would of been nice to see what the wideband AFR read.

Looks good!   We plan on using Travertine in shower and floor, but haven't picked shape/style yet, this is where we like to get creative (like in our kitchen). I'll install it so we can save some bucks there.
The cabinets are solid oak and in great shape, so just the counter will be replaced there with granite along with new plumbing fixtures.  I do a lot of storefront glass business with a contractor though work, he's offered me a 50% discount on the frameless shower door/enclosure.

Pays to have connections that's for sure. I not only didn't have it in me but way above my talents. Removing a tub, locating a drain that involved concrete work let alone positioning new pipes and fixtures. The hardy board, red coat and 18 inch tile and grout forget it.

Just glad it's done.  ;)

The wind is still howling across the desert. No riding today, rest of the week busy with continuation of Spring cleaning. I'm just beat.

This morning around 0430 hrs. I started on the exhaust. Went together with only a few issues but done now. The stock silencers should be a lot quieter than the full race. My, they were loud.  ::)

A MV forum friend welded in a bung for the O2 sensor and I ran wiring up to the battery area. I went for the right side due to connector size and length of wiring. I used cable guides to avoid the swing arm and exhaust. The left side would of hid the sensor better but due to routing and clearance I opted for right side.

Changes are being done this weekend to the logger and the chip. Will see what Adam comes up with. Still think it was a crap MAP on the eprom.

Onward...

Two (2) eproms ship tomorrow with added data logger functions. Adam changed the timing and fuel on the lower end.

The reason for two identical chips is the fact that more tweaking will be done down the road. We can read the data and pinpoint the changes that might be needed. I can still ride the bike while one is in the mail. Of course removing the fuel tank again.  ::)

I got the wide band programed this morning calibrating the Bosch O2 sensor then changing the lower analog reading to 10 AFR and the upper analog reading to 20 AFR.  It's all wired and hooked up to switched power.

Onward.

tt

I forgot to add that I "finally" found a set of Oberon billet reservoir covers in titanium finish. Wanted to match the handle bars and triple tree.
