New to the CB world and have some questions!
« on: August 30, 2014, 09:48:52 AM »
Hello everyone!

My name is Joel and I am somewhat new to the motorcycle world.
I have been working on a 1979 Yamaha XS400 that has been real fun. I have been very active on the XS400 Forums, so I am happy to find a similar group of people for this style of bike. I did the classic Cafe/Brat modifications and I am really happy with it and am excited for another project (and its perfect because my Wife wants the XS when I'm done with it). But I've found it lacks a touch in the power side, I was hoping the extra 150cc would fill that gap for me!

I have a line on a CB550SC for cheap, but wasn't sure how the bike is to restore/fix/modify.
The VIN is JH2PC0901DM012849. Can anyone tell me much from the VIN?
And this is the bike as it is now. All the parts are accounted for, just not in the picture!

I like the look of this bike with it's square fairing and the like:

Here is my XS400 (Not quite complete, but close!)

And finally, here my XS is with a pet project I work on in the background, a 77 CT70:

Nice meeting you all, and thanks in advance for any insight and help!

Joel

That's a seriously pretty 400!

You won't find much archived info on that Honda in the SOHC/4 Bikes section, but the "Other Bikes" section is a good spot (that model is a Dual Cam).

Here's a stock shot of an '83.  My Google skills didn't reveal any dating system for those bikes, but this looks very close.
