mounting modern frame sliders on a 750K?
« on: August 25, 2014, 07:50:36 AM »
Has anyone ever tried it?

I was thinking they'd be pretty easy to bolt on at the motor mounts.
Seems like a good spot to have them - could save the stator or points in a fall...

I could have used this... I think they would stick out like a sore thumb, though.

I think for the CB750 you need at least 2 points of mounting to keep them from bending. Your one pointers would be so long from the frame they would bend.

Relatively cheap and proven case guards do a great job of guarding the cases. Mount with 2 or 3 points.

I actually have a set of the 3 point case guards but I can't get them to fit well on my bike (750K3).
maybe I have a 77/78 set...

anyway, I thought maybe the modern types would work. they're certainly easier to mount.
they'd likely look out of place, though.

Get some 2 point guards, they will look less funky.

I'm thinking about frame sliders as well, there has to be a way of making them look good, maybe welding mounts for them under the cases on the frame rails so the only protrude a small amount, just enough to stop the covers hitting the ground, black one would disappear nicely if done properly... ;)

Should be easy just flame cut a piece that goes between. The two motormounts,  then weld a boss on that, drilled and tapped for slider..

Yes, it wouldn't be hard, the trick is to make it look like it either belongs or doesn't stick out like dogs balls on a canary.... ;D

Are you willing to part with those guards grumpy?
