Seat cleaning? How can I stop it being slippy!
« on: August 25, 2006, 03:06:22 AM »
Hi.. I'd like to use some sort of restorative vinyl cleaner for cleaning the seat on my bike. I have tried some car interior (vinyl) cleaner/wax stuff but although this brings it up nice and black and looks really good, of course it gets slippy!! Is there any thing I can use to restore the seat a little without making it too slippy to sit  on?

The best stuff EVER is below--->
http://www.justonce.com
I bought some for my sprayed in bed-liner , and figured I would try it on my CB seat.
The seat looks almost wet to the touch, yet is not slippery at all.
Good stuff, and it lasts as well.

Saddle soap,
And never let armor-all near the seat! My butt still aches when I think about armor-all, I think I had carnal knowledge of my tail-light.

saddle soap - now there's an idea. There's plenty of horse-owners round here. Might give it a go.
That Just Once stuff sounds good too. I've emailed them to see if they have distributors in the UK.

Products that come to mind from a concours guy - Vinylex. Spray on, let it sit, wipe off excess with wet sponge. Somewhat expensive, though.  Also try Meguiars rubber and vinyl restorer. Works very nicely, same technique.   Most all products that enhance the black will add slipperyness based on the approach you are taking.  Now if you want to recolor the seat (black), there are products that do this but are more permanent and more xpensive.

Funny, after using armour-all, I don't find my seat slippery at all.  maybe it's because I ride naked.  :o

If that butt sweats enough you won't slip.  :)

I remember I LOADED my seat with armour all once.
It was my first ride on my first bike , which was a 1980 Yamaha 650.
Lets just say after the first stop, I had to get off the bike and shake my nuts outta my throat  :o
Lesson learned..
That JUST ONCE stuff really does work.
I did my bike seat again today and it looks almost wet to the touch, yet is not slippery..
Good stuff...

Does anyone know if that JustOnce stuff is available in stores or is it only available online? I tried to bring up their order form but I got a server error page instead.

I use Pledge on my NOS seat, in the pump bottle, it gives a nice finish!  New wss never a gloss finish (I’m green, that’s why the bike is being recycled) shine is not original just a show bike thing!  ;D

Biffta, Very nice ride!  ;D

So putting pledge on the seat doesn't make it slippery? (I'm not very heavy so I have to take care to not fly off the back even now when I get on the throttle of the old CB550.) ;D

I have had the same problem after reading this post.
I scrubbed my seat clean with detergent Then let it dry in the sun.
I bought some great KIWI Boot polish and polished it it looks like I was On Parade.
The seat is like new and does not slip at all.
Make sure that the seat is let in the sun for a while and using a lambs wool buffer give at a final polish Give it a couple of coats and polish the seat well with a brush or the lambswool buffer.
Great results.
It should be water proof as well.

Just don't wear white pants when you ride your bike Dave, ha ha! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
