Is $70 (USD) to much for a '76 CB400F starter switch?

Holy cow! You could build one for that much.

ludicrous price?
« on: September 26, 2006, 07:17:53 PM »
So I've been offered a "great condition" starter switch from an online salvage shop for $70. Seems like robbery to me, but I'm curious to know what the experts think. Thanks.

I believe I'd be looking for alternatives like if there's one from another model that would work or if you could use parts from another one to fix it. Some might pay it, but I wouldn't unless I had to.

No offense, but that's highway robbery. I got a brand-new one from Service Honda earlier this year, p/n 35130-377-670, for $72.45, plus shipping.

YMMV...

New price sounds about right.
Used sounds way too much. (I believe I gave away a few this year, so....)

If you are patient closely watch eBay for handlebars that have the switches included.
When I was starting the K2 I didn't have any switches for her. The going rate on eBay was too steep IMHO. I also needed handlebars. I got one set of bars that had the switches included for $25. Since then I have picked up 3 handlebar setups none costing more than $25 that have the switches with them. Each switch probably took a few hours disassembling/cleaning/painting/reassembling, but I now   a good supply of the various switches for K2s to K5s anyway. But again, be patient and the deals will come.

i went to radio shack and bought an intermittent button for about a dollar.  combined with an inline fuse and about a foot of wire that i had laying around, i have a starter switch and a theft deterant system.....the thieves will never know to push the big black button on the left side panel.....

damn, now you guys know how to bypass my theft deterant system.

BEWARE of JEFF'S CYCLES in Oregon! They take your money, send you junk parts and you can never get hold of them again! THEY ARE CRIMINALS!
There are still new switches available. I did what Cmorgan did. Here's what it looks like (I put a light toggle on the top of the headlight):

Thanks for the responses. That's kinda what I thought, but wanted to make sure.

I tried to wire in a temporary close switch, but it kept grounding out and blowing the 15amp fuse. cmorgan - what size fuse did you use?

mkramer - you've got a PM.

Sounds a bit high to me for used. BTW, IMO used electrical isn't worth the trouble. Spend the extra bux and buy new. I'd improvise as did a number of our bretheren here. It's cool what a couple of dollars and a little imagination can do. I've used inexpensive momentary switches for the starter in a '64 Buick Special and for the start button on my mothers dryer (i think the factory part was around $25).

don't remember off the top of my head, but pretty low.  that 15 should be ok.
you're going to the signal wires for the relay, not the high current ones right?

I went to Radio Shack and bought a pack of these for $4. Solder the black wire to one pole and the red/yellow to the other pole throw some heat shrink over the solder point, that's it. It fits perfectly through the hole in the housing and the nut holds it in place. Works fine.
