Just bought first bike 1974 CB750!
« on: August 30, 2014, 04:46:21 AM »
So I have been looking for an inline 4 CB400 for a while and I happen to stumble upon a titled CB750.  I went and looked at it (not knowing much about bikes, just that I loved the style of the CB's)  So after convincing two friends that know way more about bikes than me and tried to convince me to get a modern bike I got them over there to test drive it.  By the end of the day I had a new cash paid for running bike in fairly clean condition and title in hand (something they can't say about their bikes... title in hand)

There are a few things I want to do, restore the original handlebars, I may be the only dork in the world like likes the originals, but right now it has cheap crotch rocket bars on it and I am going to rebuild the front forks, one of the dust boots is busted, and while in there I might as well upgrade to something modern.  The carbs seem balanced, it is hard to tell on one cylinder since their is a hole in one of the mufflers, I really hope I can find a replacement, as the other three look nice and I like the factory exhaust.  I will do some minor stuff, recover the seat, clean up some surface rust, and one day repair the emblems and plastic, one side has a crack.

I think I have a nice example of a 1974 CB750 that is mostly original, and I plan to get it as original as possible (with some modern upgrades behind the scenes)  It will get some fairly aggressive tires, I plan to hit the dirt trails with it (nothing crazy) and throw it around on a dirt oval (something crazy, a Harley made it in and out, the CB should do fine)

Welcome to the sohc4 world and to the forum. Good people here and alot of knowledge. Is the 341 pipe your needing the #2? I searched for one for nearly 2 years before finding one. Good luck with the search. Still several members here looking for the good ole #2 also. Are you serious about the trails, and the dirt oval ??? They are great street bikes, but doing it on the dirt is a different story.

Can't wait to see pics...dirt bike tires are just gonna make it handle crappy on the street, and these top heavy, high rpm bikes are not gonna be very good in the dirt, no matter the tires...
If it works good, it looks good...

Ah, I am not putting dirt tires on this bike, just something that will do better on the mountain roads we ride.  The dirt track we ride is packed hard, I have seen a Harley do the track, along with a Grom and some more questionable vehicles.  I have been looking at some street tires with more aggressive tread, nothing near a dirt bike tire, I am not crazy.  Who knows, at this point It looks like I will be choosing from 3 different bikes...  probably bring a CB400 and a CB750, and of course my GTI.

Welcome.    Mountain roads in Baton Rouge?! Thought you lived in LA.

I have a K4 too, recently upgraded the front end and suggest the same to you: springs, fork seals, tapered head bearings and wheel bearings.
