Red rear turn signals on a CB750A?
« on: August 30, 2014, 05:42:34 AM »
Do any of you have red lenses on your hondamatic 750?

Trying to restore this 76 CB750A, I got some rear turn signals with red lenses in them off a 78 CB750A.  Can't get the flasher to work but all bulbs worked so I opened up the red turn signals and found a double element bulb in a double element housing.  So, off to check the parts breakdown and I see the 76 and 78 both have single element rear turn signals.

Just wondering if red or yellow is the OEM lens color?  Look at these long shafts on the turn signals.  I'm starting to believe that they might be off some other bike.

Honda used amber lenses on both ends of those bikes. the rear ones used a single filament lamp but I believe the bright one on the double  filament is the same as the single one so wiring it to the bright should give you the correct result. Be sure the battery is charged fully as the stock flasher can fail to flash from low voltage I replaced my honda flasher with a electronic version to get more reliable and consistent flash.

Thanks on mentioning the battery being fully charged.  I am using a 12 volt jumper battery while I am doing the wiring.  I noticed when I tried to turn the engine over with it that it didn't last very long.  So, that is probably why my flasher isn't working ... Thanks!

Speaking of lights can you tell me if your blue high beam light is as bright as the rest of the lights in the indicator?  Mine is pretty dim and hard to see in the daylight.

Found out that these red lens turn signals are after market and come with a grab bar to mount them in.

My 78 had the same conversion, but yellow lenses. Some mook ran new wiring for them - a crappy job at that- so I just unhooked all and used stock wiring with just the high output of the double bulb. I plan on eventually removing the sissy-bar, grab handle deal all together. The two-up high-back king and queen seat it came with isn't much my style. :)

Let me know if you want get rid of the red lenses. They look like they fit the later model stock signals and I've been thinking of converting the amber (signal only) to red (tail and turn).
