Quick clutch plate assembly question. CB550 '76
« on: September 11, 2014, 08:43:38 AM »
Just want to make sure which direction the clutch plates should be installed.

The steel plates have teeth that are round on one side and ground flat with a sharp edge on the other. Does the rounded side go out (away from the bike) when installed, or in (toward the bike/motor)? Also, is there a designated 'top' plate?

The friction plates (non-metal) can go in in any direction, correct?

Thanks!

if the friction plates have slots that aren't on a lean but straight it wont matter which direction,if they are angled place them so they throw oil outwards away from the clutch centre, the clutch spins backwards so to speak, just stack the steels with the pressed edges facing the same way, doesent matter which way the stack is facing in the pile.

There was a copious amount of glazing on the plates. Polished them down to metal. Clutch engages like butter- which feels like a dream come true compared to the bucking mess I was dealing with before.
Thanks, dave
