Tank Emblems - Has anybody tried to paint them?
« on: August 29, 2014, 03:08:12 PM »
Just wondering if anybody has tried to paint these.  If so, what kind of paint did you use.  All of the black is gone and most of the white.  Thanks, Jim

Use paint market.
I painted the whole thing to match the tank first. Then painted the letters black.

You can paint the whole thing black and remove the paint where the letters are

I stripped them painted black, fine sanded the paint off the letters and used testors on the inside of the letters then clear coated.

Paint sharpies.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

I think there is a thread on using those syringes people use to make sun catchers. It is close to the way they were made. The paint is flowed into the letters and allowed to dry. I will do it this winter and post a tread.

That is how I have done mine using a block of wood and some #400 wet/dry to hit the high spots between color applications. Pretty hard to keep the paint in the 'lines'.

Here is the "After" picture using Testors paint.  Not perfect but will do.

Not to hijack my own thread but what are you guys doing with the nasty looking chrome trim?  I'm hesitant to remove them because I'm not sure of what's underneath.  Once I take them off, they're done with.  Thanks

I know it's not a Honda, but I did a set of these for a customer with a Sparkle Silver/clear coat backing, Red letters and then sanded with 1500 the edges and the 850. All powder coated.

I replaced the trim on my tank with this http://www.ebay.com/itm/120983035836?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Cleaned up the gunk and buildup a bit before putting in on.  Took about 30 seconds.

I used acrylic paint I got from an art store. Water soluble, dries permanent and water resistant. Came out great.
