I have a 76 550f with a 4 into 1 exhaust. I really like the 4 into 4 setup. Is it possible to fit a 4 into 4 exhaust to the 550f without too much modifying?

At first I would have said yes with minor rear hanger issue but, then I remembered my 77F , the kickstand was frame mounted further back and interfered with the "hang of it all", can't remember if the 76 is the same way.

Yes the 77 has the same mounts as the 76. Just a few minor cosmetic changes and the fork bellows removed.

the other big difference is the brake pedal and associated frame parts...pretty sure the f brake pedal arrangement will not work with the early style 500/550 4 into 4's, I don't know about the '77/'78 4 into 4's.  Rearsets could potentially solve this problem, although I don't know of a bolt on set up for the '76 f and that can just cause more problems.

You can make anything work with just about anything if you spend enough time, money, and work on it.  Is it a straight bolt on/conversion?  No.
