Broke down on the way to work today (cb750 clutch)
« on: September 28, 2006, 11:52:19 AM »
Hey guys, I haven't been around here in a while, life is crazy for me at the moment.

Anyway, my 750 chopper let me down on the way to work today.  I was coming to a stop and when I pulled in the clutch the lever came right to the bar and there was zero resistance.  I thought I broke the cable but that wasn't the case.

I tried to run through the clutch adjustment procedure at the side of the road but no luck. When I turn in the main adjuster (under the chrome clutch cover) it goes in WAY too far before it gets any resistance.  Then once I take the slack out of the cable you can't even pull in the clutch due to the resistance.  All gears feel like neutral at all times.

I got it towed home and haven't had a chance to go further than that.  Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Haven't done much clutch work beyond replacing friction disks. But if I were to hazard a guess I would say that maybe the star-shaped plate that holds down the clutch springs broke. Or the bearings popped loose on the inside of your adjuster(inside clutch cover). Either way it means removing the clutch cover for a peek  :P
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Most likely clutch cable streched or split internally - Let us know what the problem is!! :o
