Ok finally got it off. Mine was a lot harder to remove than what I've seen people describing. I didn't like using the axle because the end has a taper to it. It potentially could be ballooning the crank end instead of pushing against it properly.
I had to get a bolt. $1.20 from The Nutty Company. Good thing they're 15 minutes from my house. No other store had this exact one. Home Depot actually had an M16 but it was a 2.0 pitch, not 1.5. And yes, my hands are way less impressive than Dave's.
I lubed it up and was cranking on it pretty hard and smacking the heck out of it and no movement. So I used my propane torch, heated it for a few minutes and with a few good smacks it loosened up and popped off.
