Sorry, misread that. That certainly sounds a lot more reasonable. Cant use these new glasses for #$%*e to read or see. Pardon the alarm  :)

I have a love hate relationship with my reading glasses, they are great to read but when I stand up and walk off with them on its like a bad trip.... ;D :o

I'm assuming the louder 12" has the potential of creating more horsepower but I wonder how loud it is. Wish there was a video comparison of the two. Or maybe I'll ask MRieck what he recommends when I get the machining done.

As for restrictions due to the outlet shape...I gots no idea. That's above my pay grade.

Kemp recommended the 12" for power, and said it was still less loud than the MGP.  I'm curious what MR says, too.

Cool. I've never heard the MGP mufflers but it's nice to know the Hindle mufflers aren't the loudest out there. Not looking to attract too much attention, don't want to get pinched.

I'm not that big of a fan of the hindle pipes I've seen recently, they aren't tuned length at all so I'm surprised they are touted as a high performance pipe, {maybe they'll hand make proper ones but I bet they are more expensive} I see better HP figures simply by being less restricted but if you look at one of the best pipes ever made for the Honda the German Schule 4 into 2 into 1, they garantee their pipe for 10 years and up too 20% increase in performance when set up properly, thats why I like Chris's 4 into 2 into 1, its based on that Schule, I lined one up yesterday, will be here soon.... 8)

Somewhere I heard that his customer communication isn't the best. Haha, just kidding!!!

I'm really just looking for a stainless system that's well made for a decent price that isn't deafening. The Hindle fits the bill for me. I'll look into the MGP pipes though but right now I'm sold on the Hindle. Besides, they're from America's hat and that's funny.

MotoGP doesn't offer a 650 system, so the Hindle is about the only one out there worth a damn (from all reports). That is probably the single decider for you, Dave.

True.  I was prepared to go the custom route until I got turned on to the Hindle.  Mac also makes a 650 pipe but there's no comparison.

Don, if you would get off your lazy rear and get that 650 engine together, you could put those Hindle pipes on and make us all a video to enjoy.  ::)

I'm considering them for the 550 build but I'm not at the stage where I'm even considering pipes for that one yet.  But it sure would be nice to drool over yours!

Ok, Jokers.

Just a re-cap: Dave has a complete, wired, painted, running and tuned bike, and all he has to do is swap the engine.

I might be ahead of him on the engine but I only have a roller in mock-up with a bit of fabrication, wheel building, painting, wiring, etc. to do.

Methinks Dave will PAVE!

Went for an all day ride with some friends yesterday. Bike performed perfectly. No blown head lights, no charging issues no ignition issues. Worked as it should. Thanks guys for helping along the way. Love this forum.

Nice blue sky ride!  Once your buddies get a taste of your 674-powered bike, they'll want to ditch their HD's for a fun lightweight bike like yours!

Very well worth it, thanks Gennaro!

And yeah Don, that will be fun seeing the difference in power. Another upgrade to the bike will be Hagon rear shocks and I've been looking into cartridge emulators. I want to be able to control this damn thing! And next season I might look into some advance motorcycle control classes. Not really track stuff, but proper techniques for cornering. Pretty much all the reasons I can't think of.

The 550 has inherently good handling.  You've already done one of the best things to improve the handling by shedding many lbs. with all of your mods.  The 650 engine is only a few lbs. more, but will have more than enough power (stock) to offset that gain.  With the setup you have planned, this thing will be a little hooligan bike.

I don't know how much general seat time you have on motorcycles, but a more focused, advanced rider class can only help your skill set.

Work on being smooth on the throttle and brakes, and on your countersteering.  Also, check out Twist of the Wrist II on youtube.  Not a bad video for some riding techniques.

Watched Twist of the Wrist a few weeks ago when I saw it mention on the forum. Really good video with what seems to be real world advice. Not just some regurgitate falsehoods. I'll have to watch a couple more times to get it all but some seat time with a teacher is how I really learn. I don't have much experience...only a few years with road bikes and some dirt bike experience from years ago. Learning from smarter people is my motto.

Just ordered the Ripple Rock Hindle exhaust with the 12" reverse cone. Pretty stoked. Came to about $450 including shipping, seems like a great deal for a quality system.

Yes!  Mine looks great, but I won't have it on the bike for a while, since the engine is still under construction (while the head is undergoing porting with Dr. MR!).

Let me/us know how the engine build is coming along.  I outmaneuvered some snags along the way.

I will once I get to building. Right now aside from the head bolts that are seized and one screwed up oil pan hole I don't see any real issues.

Dave,

Are you going to try to adapt the 550 wiring harness and ignition to your 650, or use the 650 CDI boxes with a 650 harness?  Or something hybrid with the Motogadget?

I see that C5 seems to be the only aftermarket manufacturer for electronic ignition for the 650.
