Thanks! So motor is complete and I ordered a jet kit from Mike at Powerbarn. Hopefully it'll come this week. Now just need to see if my existing throttle cables will work.

Not much left to do, feels pretty good.

Getting closer! Throttle cables will work just fine. I only had to shorten the pull cable by 1.25" Carbs sit very nicely under the tank.

Question on the start up, jetting and break in period.

The break in procedure I'm not worried about really. Nor what oil to use. But what I am concerned about is doing plug chops and figuring out what jets and needles are good and doing  carb syncs while doing the break in. I plan on going to the dyno but I want to get it as close as I can first to lower costs. I will call up the dyno to see if they do engine break ins (which I hear is good and quick) but I guess I'm asking is there any issue with me going through a testing period while breaking this thing in? Or better left to the dyno to do everything?

Also, I did a retourque after 24 hours, but it's best to do another one after my first oil change (like 100 miles)?

Thanks Cal, I have a jet kit on the way with a handful of needles, pilots and mains. Hopefully it'll be enough, or at least get me in a good place. And yeah, swapping jets is super easy and the ability to swap needles and change clip position without resyncing is beautiful.

It's just that I know varying RPM is good for engine break in but if I'm stuttering and bogging due to incorrect jets that seems like it'll be an issue. Exciting to say the least, maybe nerve wracking is more like it, haha.

So Dave, it appears your degree wheel is homemade.  Care to share how you made it and what you made it from? Is it a metal or plastic or plywood wheel and if plastic or metal did you install a center bushing of metal?  Looks like my kind of insanity for a degree wheel.   I want one. 8) :)

I used to work at a sign shop/design studio so I went back there and asked my old boss if I could use the facilities :). I found the file online and printed it on paper and then mounted it to a plastic sheet, which is kind of like a PVC. In the industry we call it "Sintra" which I think is a brand.

There's no bushing, that would have been good. I just punched out a hole (about 1" diameter) in the center and used spray adhesive to stick it to the rotor. Then tightened the bolt down with a big washer to further hold it in place. Worked like a charm.

Being the stand up guy that he is, Dave sent me his modified cover and degree wheel today, so I can dial in my cam and install my Mike Reick 650 head this weekend. Just wanted to publically thank you Dave.

No problem Cam, glad to help out a fellow member. I just want more 650s on the roads, it's going to be lonely!

Of course anyone else that wants to use that stuff is more than welcome after Cam's finished with it.

I haven't received a reply from Pete yet but I had a question of static timing the PAMCO. Is it simply grounding my - lead and attaching the + lead to the signal output from the 1/4 or the 2/3 on the PAMCO? I asked him for a write up but now I'm thinking it's way more simple than I thought. I mean, they're just magnetic switches, no? I couldn't find anything online about it.

Are you going to use an O2 sensor?  Bosch single wire 02 sensor is inexpensive.  Used to use them on  my Volvo 240 s that were pre-3 wire sensor models.  They make a universal 3-wire model as well, much less than their application specific models and good quality.

If that isof any help.
A while ago I was thinking of doing a welded bung for an a/f sensor, but I'll be doing dyno time up in MA (a shop MRieck recommended) so I'll let the pros handle that. Still want to give them as many jets and needles as they need to do runs with. I doubt they have any CR jets on hand. I've never been to a dyno, so not sure what protocol is.

Well, I splurged.

The PAMCO is a fine unit, but the modifications I did to the plate weren't perfect and I wasn't able to static time it, I had no adjustment room. I could have either machined a new plate out of aluminum that I didn't have in stock and fiddle with it until I got it...or just get the C5 and know everything is going to be perfect. So that's what I chose.

That being said, haha, the plate that comes with the unit (came with mine at least) was too small. Gave Paul a call and he was going to send me another plate either from his distributor or make one from a 750 plate and send to me, but I just filed new slots and it works fine. Best thing about the C5 is there's no setting of timing. Put the motor to TDC and rotate the plate until the red light goes on and your static and advance is automatically set. Beautiful.

That's another reason I went with the C5...with this motor there are many unknowns and now timing isn't on the list.

...plus you get 4 different curves available to try on the dyno!  ;)

And the possibility of making custom ones...which I have zero clue about, but still possible!

It's a nice solution.  It allows you to run stronger coils, and avoid overheating them because their duration is more precise
