This is only about 20 miles from my "shop"
« on: September 03, 2014, 07:07:40 AM »
I am at my sister's where I work my bikes and cars for the next week doing major body surgery on my MG.

I am however planning to head down to this on Saturday to see if I can pick up some parts for a good deal.

Any of my local friends that might like me to look for something for them (I will keep my eyes open for a 650 engine Nick) PM me and I will see what I can find.

I have talked to that Guy a few times. His real passion are old Moto X bikes but as you see he is a major buyer/hoarder. Last time I talked to him he was heading to Michigan to maybe buy out an old dealership of their take offs and other leftovers. He was selling on E-bay but think he was getting tired of it, good help may be hard to find.
Better check that blue Honda 750 tank in the pic Danny and make sure its not a wrinkle but something tells me he would already know.

I thought about going to Barber, but my sister gets married that weekend, so not this year.

Unfortunately not to be Debbie Downer, this ad has been listed many times since last summer even. Pics all seem to be the same. I'm hoping you find treasures Danny but I'm pretty sure a lot of the good stuff has been picked.  Definitely look for that tank!

I'm not trying to be mean Ekpent! I was tempted to drive down there  but I don't think it's worth the trip for myself. If I were in Danny ' s shoes and it's 20 min away, well I am sure I would have been there by now.

Agreed Nick. I love rooting through old stuff and he does sound like a motivated seller. I am sure I would walk away with more stuff.

I'm not really looking for treasures. But I would like a full wiring harness and gauges for a 74-76 550K to match the frame I am using, a tank, a brake master and good caliper, and maybe a set of wheels (I do have two sets of stock wheels that are useable, but not in as good a shape as I would prefer). Even though I would still like to find a way to adapt the alloys from an FT500, my first priority is an actual running, rideable bike.

Plus, it is always fun to dig through a parts stash to see what you might stumble upon.

The blue tank from the photo is gone. He does have an amazing amount of stuff. Shelves and shelves of parts in USPS priority boxes, labeled and numbered and ready for shipping. Shelves full of brake calipers, drawers full of gaskets, milk crates full of exhaust pipe rings.

He only had a couple CB750's and one ratty CB500 engine in a CB550 frame. He does have 6 CB650's in various levels of completeness.

He has a couple running, mostly restored bikes, a 750A and a 350 Four, but his asking prices are not realistic in my opinion. I think he was asking $2,500 for the 350, but the fenders were painted, it had an aftermarket 4-1 exhaust, and the engine had been painted or powder coated an odd shade.

Need any GT750 parts Eric? He has a parts bike and I found a used OEM exhaust tucked away that seems to be in good shape.

I did get some parts for my own bike. A mostly complete wiring harness that will work with the '74 frame, some ratty 74 gauges, but really all I wanted was the bracket and I will use the gauges I have, a nice CB500/550 tank with a good clean inside, and a disk brake caliper.

He also has a complete (as far as I could tell) FT500 Ascot he will let go cheap. Almost bought it. I really want to adapt the FT's alloy wheels (with the rear disk) to my project. He says he has one already broke down, so maybe I can get a good price from him on just the parts I want rather than a whole bike.

T-here are a couple of 750K engines and one 77-78 750F. I also saw a few sets of 750K carbs, all mid 70's from the looks of them.

I guess he was a motivated seller, but that conflicted with his hoarding.

It would seem what it is,, depends on the guys mood sometimes, luck of the draw, color of your truck, type of beer you bring him..stuff like that...  If they even drink beer.
Sometimes you gotta get there the right day, may take multiple tries, and you may not ever succeed. But he has the stuff, that you may need..
Sometimes you have to find their weakness..takes time..

I bet the 50 bux in gas guy, didn't bring him beer.

But this I will guarantee,  if you don't get there, you won't get any of it..
