Checking for vacuum leaks.

What's a good way to check for vacuum leaks in the intake tract? I seem to remember once using an unlit propane torch and listening for the engine to increase in speed when it started sucking in the propane vapors.
Any thoughts?

I've always sprayed WD-40 or similar at seams and connections and watched for smoke at the exhaust.
