Rear sprocket options/Min. cruise RPM - 1996 Nighthawk750
« on: September 03, 2014, 03:00:27 PM »
First, hello! Awesome collection of information.

I started my journey with Honda's sohc world with a 1982 CB650 Custom. Bought it from an Airforce pilot, in immaculate shape, with just about 8,000 miles on it. Everything had been serviced and replaced in order to sell it, so I never had to do anything but change the oil and change the chain once, in the time that I owned it. Sadly, it vanished amid a divorce, and was never found.

I recently got back into the game with a 1996 Nighthawk 750 with ~23,000 miles. Gorgeous bike. Cared for like a child. I purchased it for commuting as much as fun.

My question is, figuring ratios aside (found those details in here already!) what is a safe minimum RPM for cruising? Commuting speed up here in Alaska is 75-80, so I find myself sitting at 5000-5300 RPM or more if I stay with the flow.

I love revs. We all love revs, that's why we have the inline 4s, right? But if I can spare some strain on my whip, I'd like to. There certainly seems to be enough power in this 750 to push the (naked) bike at 80 @ 4000 RPM. Am I wrong?

If not, I have it in mind to find a sprocket that'll help me achieve that.

Cheers

 :o D'oh!

Well I guess this is misplaced....lol.

But wouldn't the theory apply anyway? Ha!

Cheers.

PS. Yeah, Prudhoe saw snow on the ground last week, we could see it in the lower mainland ANY day and shouldn't be surprised, but he last few winters have been saving snow (though not freezing weather) for late October.
