No spark, turns signals, or tail light
« on: September 04, 2014, 05:05:39 PM »
Hey guys,

All the electronics on my '76 550 worked when I bought it. The wiring is not in great shape, but it all worked last week. I just spent the last few days cleaning it up, cleaning the carbs, etc.

Now, with a brand new battery, all wiring plugged back in, and fresh gas in the tank, only the headlight and warning lights (oil, high beam, neutral, signals) on the handlebar clamp are working. No spark, no tail/brake lights, no turn signals. I realize that I'll be needing to replace or repair my wiring harness and electronics panel, but for now, I'm hoping to get it on the road as-is, since it ran last week.

My question is this: Given the grouping of functions working and not working, is there a particular plug or area of the wiring harness I should address? Do the coils, turn signals, and tail light share a common plug at the electronic panel?

Also, is anyone selling new or refurbished wiring harnesses and panels? :)

Thanks so much,

TF

Thanks. I swear I used to have a voltmeter, but I can't seem to find it now that I need it. I think you're on to something with the key switch. I also just noticed that when it's ON, the horn kind of works, but when it's set to RUN, the horn won't work at all. Guess I'll pull the tank off gain and start tracing down bad connections...

I think I'll still talk to Hondaman about a new harness. I hate electrical problems enough to pony up for new wires and never have to worry about that...

Thanks again,

TF
