As someone with no interest in any particular outcome of the game, I found all the "Monday morning quarterbacking" interesting. It seems to me, the "expected" play was to try and run it in. Had the play that was called worked, the coach and quarterback would have been lauded for a smart, out of the box decision. Unfortunately...  ???

So true, Bob, I had thought of that too.

Other analysts mentioned their star running back had run 5 similar running plays from the 1 yard line during the regular season and only scored on 1 of them.

Their is a conspiracy theory that they did not want their star running back to get the MVP because he had been so bad and pissy etc. at new conferences and other mandatory pregame events leading up and wanted their well spoken and charming quarterback to get it  ;)

I have my own theory about what happened.  I believe Wilson pissed God off at the end of the championship game by claiming God was on his and the Hawk''s side.  At about 1:00 -

Since God has a great sense of humor, he set up the way the end of the Superbowl played out.  Only divine intervention can explain what happened. It was perfect retribution.  ;D

The player that made the interception described it as a vision before he stepped up and took the ball.

Exhausting game for spectators.
Looking at the last play in more detail, Pats' Browner motioned to the rookie to move up and bust the route.  It worked.
Pats had practiced defending this play, but the rookie couldn't in several attempts.
Coaches told him he better get it figured out because the hawks had successfully run this play in the past.
He did and he's the hero.  Good for him.

What i don't understand for the hawks...you've got 30 seconds, one timeout, and the wrong personnel on the field.
Call a time out FFS!  Who calls these plays?  Darrell Bevell does.
...but if you gotta run a pass play, throw deep to the corner.  Beat them with size and score a TD or overthrow it incomplete.
You win, or the clock stops.....still with a play and a timeout left.  Bevell doesn't have a box to think out of.  This is on him.

Go Sounders!!!

I think the whole thing was to run the right amount of time off the clock. If they got a TD great, if not it was an incomplete pass and the clock stops and the Hawks have time for two more plays. Hopefully scoring the TD and not leaving any time for the Pats to come back and score a tying field goal or winning TD. Unfortunately....

Bob is righ, Coach Carrol is a gambler and if the play worked he would've looked like a genious. Again, unfortunately....

It was one of the most exciting Super Bowls in a long time. A great matchup.  I am a Pats fans and a Pete Carrol fan too. He brings a certain class to the game.

Thank you! I've been reading the stories and local comments in our paper. I'm sure you can hear the THUD of the bandwagon fans hitting the pavement all the way from Boston. The Hawks made the Bowl twice in two years, almost in three and possibly in four. I still think they are the team to beat. Some fans get spoiled real easy *cough* 49ers *cough*  ;D

Agree, they are the team to beat.  Great matchup, this was one of those games of who makes the fewest mistakes wins the game. Brady threw 2 interceptions but Wilson's last play was fatal.

I just saw this thread and it reminded me of the Seattle- Green Bay championship game. I think this was the most exciting game I ever saw. I'm a long time die hard Raider fan so never really a Seahawk kinda guy. When they were AFC west I liked them after the Raiders & Chargers (I don't care for KC and hate Denver almost as much as I hate the 49'ers!). My favorite NFC team is the Green Bay Packers so I was rooting for them against Seattle. We were on a houseboat watching the game and the guy with the houseboat was from Seattle and loved his Seahawks. Somewhere around the middle of the game when Green Bay was kicking their a$$ this gal comes over and brings Rob (the Seahawk fan) a bottle of wine and a block of cheese (some cheese with his wine!). She had this smirk on her face and didn't stay. So Rob gave the bottle of wine to his ole lady and went and got a box of Ritz to have with the crackers. When all was said and done I told him we should take the empty wine bottle and cheese wrapper back to her. About 5 of us walked over to her house and knocked on the door. She answered and he handed her the empties, let out a nice burp and thanked her! Needless to say she wasn't wearing the smirk anymore ;D Anyways....I gotta hand it to Seattle for that game.

Oh no! Not another Seattle Subaru!  ;D

It's just preseason. We're getting all the close losses out of the way now! ;)

I like Jimmy Graham and some of the rookies on defense. The running game is lacking but then again, Marshawn hasn't touched a football yet! They still need to shore up the front O-line. RW can't scramble forever.

He's going to have to.  ::)  We are a running team with the best defense in the league.  The offense only needs to get us 13-14pts in a game, and let the defense score the rest.  He is a great leader on the field, but even with JG, he'll still have fewer attempts than Drew Brees will have completions  ;D
