i have a proud cylinder stud at different hieght, pics
« on: September 05, 2014, 09:05:05 pm »
Hello,

73' cb750 k3 engine.

these are pics of the two inner most front cylinder studs, attached to the crankcase, closest to the cam chain tunnel.  the one in question is standing a little proud, ive wondering if i need to tighten.  common sense says
of course, but then again, my sense isnt perfect.

one appears like it might have backed out a little because they are not the same height.  the others are all flush or slightly below plane of the case

just wondering if someone can confirm this is incorrect or ok.
im mostly just concerned if it will cause a problem upon rebuild

  thanks for the replies.

ps.   interestingly, all the other studs ring nicely, like a tuning fork if tapped with a screw driver, rinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng, except this proud one, it just kinda goes "thunk"

IIWM....I'd double nut it and turn it out.  Clean out the hole and set it back in place....

if i take it out, i would have to consider just buying a new set of studs, seemingly money down the drain, but i justify it by telling myself "at least i'm not wasting my money on fast food or gambling!"

i also noted the threads on the tops of the studs on the k3 show some staining that seem to indicate they've always been different heights.
