Final drive gear shaft/internals
« on: February 19, 2018, 02:04:04 PM »
Can anybody tell me the importance of the parts that are inside of the final drive gear shaft? The nut on mine has been damaged beyond repair by the dreaded chain break and i'm not 100% sure if I could get it off, although I just purchased a shaft with gear, sprocket and all the bearings it doesn't have the nut or anything on the inside. So i'm trying to figure out if I can just not worry about mine being "boogered up" or if I do need to go with all new insides and use the new shaft.

not sure about the nut you are talking about, but if you have a midyear 750 final drive as a replacement it should fit, check to see if you have a double or single row final drive bearing, and the shafts are longer on a 77/78.bill

The nut is only for the chain oiler, most block it off..

If it has a regular bolt in it, its a late longer shaft, and you must change the gear.
