thought I start this arvo after work, cracked a coldie and plugged in the old transarc, managed to tack up and weld the basic frame and its actually square!just plodding along with it,ive decided to buy another 2 inch wider axle for it,the wide wheels run too close to the leaf plate retaining clips without offsetting the hangers on the frame more than id like,id be happier with the hangers fully square and seated on the side rail, new axle is only 70 bucks,#$%* I just bought two "king gee" summer cool long sleeve work shirts that were bloody 90 bucks so an axle sounds cheap?!that was from an online joint I always use for work clothes.

thanks fellas yeah beer did help!managed to get the frame all welded up today, got the new wider axle under it so now its a towable frame, burned through most of a 1kg pack of 2.5mm rods.

took my time and its nice and square running diagonals here and there to like one millimetre, even squared the axle measuring from the tyres to the rails fore and aft and to the rear of the frame and a point on the treads, once it gets used itll move no doubt?

I haven't heard of the home brew factories before, sounds spot on. You just pay to use they're setup, and create your own brew?

yeah mick theyd look a lot better if my wife held her phone camera the right way around!i cant rotate it ive tried so please rotate your monitor now!,i also tried reversing it into our side driveway ramp,i got nicely squared up then realised I couldn't see the trailer as theres no guards or body yet so canned that idea and just pushed it up by hand,i want to mimick the holdens tail lights on this trailer.

we call them a jockey wheel calj737,i might use one later once it gets heavier as the sides and tail gate get built up.

just sizing up the side frame with lights and tail gate,i decided to mount the lights higher up so morons might see them,i was considering a string of lights under the tail gate but I thought theyd be damaged on steep driveways or peoples toes,i got some heavy square tube to house them in,hopefully they'll last through the next mad max movie up high and surrounded with steel?drilled holes in the sides so the indicators can be seen somewhat from the sides aswell, might get some more done this weekend.

im hoping "FAT" means #$%*ing Awesome Trailer mick?i think the best thing about it are those wheels?got a bit done today, ill be happy if I get the front and rear tailgate frames and tail lights mounted and wired up tomorrow,i have it registered already and have a new vin plate and number plate for it,on the vin plate you have to specify a model,so I put "rescue racer"like from the dumb show on tv Hr Pufnstuff, they went for it ok!

thanks fellas, just plodding along, measure measure measure, tack tack, recheck etc,id be hopeless in a production factory, didnt get as much done as id hoped but I knocked off a beer or two and got the rear gate frame knocked up,plus ran the wire and mounted wire holders so its all good!buddy likes it!man I dig those old wheels!

official rescue racer plate,i could've called it "the mother of all trailers"or some #$%*?

after seeing a new trailer with washers tacked on underneath with the cable draped through them about to short circuit as soon as you bought it I thought id go over kill, this is ready for the fibre optic upgrade for trailers when its released?

I have a flimsy chain through the wheel and spring,im gonna make a coupling lock from an old tow ball with the lock in a steel box and a wheel clamp aswell, the ones ive seen in stores you can buy I could bust/cut or #$%* them up in a minute.

we have labour day weekend here now,ill be having Monday off work, got a bit done today, lights and plate mounted and wired up,got a tie rail on aswell.

welded a couple of latch hoops from worn out load binder straps with motorcycle restraint in mind.

ive settled on 2.1mm checker plate for the floor and 1.6 flat sheet for the sides and tail gates.

That's a good decision on the Checker Plate floor Dave.
That stuff stays flat forever.

I've lost count of how many trailers I've seen with the floor looking like
the Flinders Ranges.
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

yeah im trying to comprimise between weight/strength and cost mick, the sides wont see much impact so i figured to go light there, the deck might take a pounding over its life time so i thought the thinnest checker plate will do,plus ill have minimal off cut.
