gas tank repair and paint on my 75k using VMR Spray can kit
« on: September 06, 2014, 11:47:24 AM »
Hey everyone, I had posted a month or two back with a lot of tank problems(RUST, OLD LINER NOT PUT IN RIGHT , PIN HOLES)
After cleaning many times, silver soldering pin holes and redcoat I finally painted and cleared. Paint is flake apricot red from VMR
in the spray can. Worked very well for me and I did it outside. Finally went for a ride while ago and it was great.

Hey katman......Thanks for posting your results. Which kit did you use? It looks awesome. Does the flake stand out? Did you apply the decal, or tape around it?
Does the kit require a lot of painting skill, like a professional or can a guy with
rattle can experience get good results? VMR is close to me, and I'm very close to
ordering the same color for a spare k5 tank. My k5 is planet blue, and I'd like the option of changing colors from time to time.

Yes, a lot of flake and easy to use. I did lay on several coats of clear. I cleared one day, wet sanded the next morning and cleared again. Pot life is 24 hrs on clear when activated. I painted the black with paint from autozone and applied ne decals.
I wet sanded clear before decals with 1500 grit and then polished. Did my side covers too. You should be fine.

Thank you sir. Only reason I'm a little nervous is because I've never used rattle can paint that was 79.00 per can ;D Did you use just the basic kit with one can of each
component? Or do you need 2 cans of color?
