New lurker
« on: October 31, 2006, 11:16:32 PM »
A good friend was talking up this site so I thought I'd drop in and say hi. I'm always on the lookout to meet new people and get a ride in there wherever possible.

About me: I've been riding without any breaks since I was 15, which is about, eh, some time now  ::) . I learned on my dad's '71 CB750 with a built RC 836 kit. Man, that thing would not blow up (not that I ever tried ). Immediately after losing that ride, I purchased an '84 GPz550. Woohoo, the handling! Rode the crud out of that bike before letting it go many years later. In '92ish, I purchased a '90 gixer 1100.I kept that until selling it in early 1999. During that time, I logged more miles than I can count, starting racing it in '95 and concluded in '98 after winning the Open Superbike championship (2nd in Open GP). One week after selling it, I got a '97 gixer 750 and it's been an exclusive street bike until late Sept this year (more on that soon). Last year I sold a really nice Z car that I swore never to sell, and used the funds to get a new '05 GSXR 1K, my first new bike. A year and 10K+ miles later a mishap caused that bike to go bye-bye, but an exact duplicate (with only 1200 miles) took it's place a few months back. I love all bikes and riding, don't care on what.

That's my riding history in a nutshell. I'm married with a 3.5 year old boy (who broke his arm falling off his first bike two days ago) and a 9 month old boy who just wants to smile at everyone. I'm currently working full-time and full-time student heading for a BS in Computer Sciences. I really enjoy building websites and databases (Access/VBA) but have yet to make the jump to database driven sites. I'm pretty much self taught, so I'm ok with it. My goal is to get a database admin job. Much of this will be put on hold as I will need to start a new full-time job after this semester and still keep the current one to take care of financial needs.

I spend too much time on another forum where I mod and am the resident but don't worry, I'll probably be lurking more than anything since I can't contribute much to SOHC bikes, but hopefully I can help with riding techniques or something. Plus, hopefully I can hook up on a ride sometime if I actually have the time and you're all willing to be seen with a DOHC bike ridden by a non-squid. Almost forgot, a bunch of our memebers on the other forum got together and we put together a race team and rode my stock, 28K+ mile 750 in the 4 hour race this last Sept 29 (One of the sites with pictures). Didn't take home any trophies (a first for me) but all things considered we did pretty good.

Great looking site, I'm still weeding my way through the gallery and grazing over the posts.

welcome Jim, don't worry about not having a sohc cause we have been known to pick over the bones of later bikes.  ;)

Without breaks or without brakes or both?  Welcome.

So many folks calling themselves "lurkers" lately kinda makes me think of Freddy Krueger ;)
