CB350F camchain tensioning bolt
« on: September 08, 2014, 07:32:57 PM »
Hello,

I have a CB350F that's missing it's camchain tensioning bolt.  The one that locks the adjustment.  I got one that I think was off a CB400, the guy that sent it to me thought they'd interchange, but it seems too long.  The bolt is about 28mm long from the underside of the head to the tip.  The smaller threaded portion is 6mm x 1.0 pitch.  The locknut threads are 8 x 1.25.

I don't think length would matter as long as it engages the tensioner rod and can lock ot down.

+1 on the length not mattering, it just holds the adjustment mechanism locked into place.
here's a nice schematic which shows you how things work: http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb350f-four-france-cam-chain-tensioner_bigma000079e05_0fa9.gif

What can happen however is that the horseshoe (no 3) at the bottom gets stuck to the crankcase and doesn't move anymore. In this case you can take the blanking bolt out (n 11) and push down with a screwdriver to feel if it still moves back and forth.
Another thing to remember is that these are old bikes which are noisy, specially compared to anything from the last 20 years, many people make the mistake of overtightening the chain, not good at all.

nice schematic, and good advice on freeing up the mechanism.

The 350-four bolt and CB400F bolt are identical.
