I finally managed to find a SOHC 750. There are three wires coming out of the generator. does it matter which way they connect to what I assume would be the three wires going to the regulator?

Naw, doesn't matter as long as it's yellow to yellow.

It's an alternator
There are 5 wires. The 3 yellow ones to the rectifier can hook up in any order. The green and white wires should connect correctly, green to a green and white to the white terminal on the regulator.
