78 CB750 Supersport - top bracket harness routing
« on: September 10, 2014, 07:10:33 AM »
The title says it, how is the wiring routed from handlebars on 78 SS?

Unlike the early K, the top bracket is deeper and I am not sure what is the best way to get my control wires to the headlight bucket.

I may end up drilling holes in the top bracket towers.

Anybody?

I have a 76SS to look at  but I'm not sure I understand the question.

I am sorry   :(

I actually looked around and from this schema here:

it looks like 78F routed wires from handlebar controls on the outside.  Note #4 clips.

On my K3F I run wires inside the handlebar, it comes out in the middle and now what? I will take some pictures tonight.

On my 77F they do indeed route from the outside, entering the bucket through the lower hole. There are supports moulded inside the bucket (assuming you have the original one) that the connector plugs are supposed to sit in - good luck with that!

My 78 F had factory bars on it when I bought it, and they were routed externally.

I can send you a picture of my current (superbike) bar setup if you need it.

Very good, thank you gents.  This sets me free  ;D  to unmarked territory.

I drilled my handlebars the way early K was and all the wires are coming out between top bracket towers - if you follow me - I think I will drill hole in each tower from the inside and bring wires down on each side of the neck.

In the beginning of the project I decided on an F triple tree and early K dash lights, it brings complications but I am stubborn enough to continue.

70CB750, on my 78 F, I used "K" drilled handlebars. The opening for the wires between the bracket towers was facing slightly downward between the bracket towers. I routed my control wires in the handlebars to give it a clean look. The wire group for the left controls come out of the hole and snake around the right side of the frame neck and the right wire group exit the same hole and snake to the left. Hope that makes sense. Then they inter into the lower hole in the headlight bucket just as "oldskoolnuts" describes. If you want I could post a pick.

Hope this is what your talking about and helps. I was wrong in my description of routing around "frame neck". They are actually routed to the left and right of the ignition switch, then a straight shot to the holes in headlight bucket.
