Help identifying CB500, No VIN, odd story
« on: September 18, 2014, 07:36:07 PM »
Hello,

Just picked up this cb500 and need some help identifying it. The PO claims it is a rare 72 cb500 "chrome" edition that was a limited run. The engine is definitely a 500, but there is no VIN plate. There is no "cb500-" stamp where it should normally be. Only identifying mark is a "MICH 76 593" stamp on the neck. What do I have? Thanks!

Sand of the original number pad on other side of neck, you should find numbers, or a welded area.

It seems pretty smooth. I'm guessing the numbers are long gone.

I have seen them Bondo'd over before, with new numbers stamped on the opposite side (or none at all).

That looks like a state issued VIN from Michigan.  This is probably a replacement frame.
