Topic: at-home zinc electroplating -- getting bright results

Hi Everyone - i used grepper's instructions in another post to zinc-electroplate some parts.

i'm trying to get brighter results from electroplating - any suggestions. i used greppers receipe, and i've added corn syrup every time, even increased it- - are there any other thoughts out there? and anybody know if the Ph level being higher or lower improves the brightness of the zing plating?

also, i'm not getting very attractive results from steel wool or wire brush to increase the brightness.

They should polish up quite nicely and easily on a buffer. I use a jewelers rouge compound for a chrome like look and just a wire wheel for a store bought new bolt look. These pics are from a Honda CL90 resto. They will eventually lose some shine just as any Zinc plate will but I have some going back to 2005 that still look great.

Polishing with #0000 steel wool, then buffing with stainless and/or white rouge will give you that finish, IFF you got a nice even coat of zinc on the part. I didn't polish mine, I chromated them to near factory finishes

I love the Yellow Chromate look on parts, it is a great detail item.
