Ok, I have pretty much decided on the changes I would like to make to my '76 CB750 F, but have seen a number of different builds on this forum and am now looking for input on my choice of wheel/tire combination.
I have either bought or have bookmarked and set aside the budget for the parts to effect the following general changes:
GSXR 600 front forks...complete with rotors, clip-ons, calipers, with a Cognito moto adjustable triple tree
Rear suspension will be updated but maintain stock shock length.
Engine mods probably to 915cc with associated carb kit.
I was planning on fitting laced wheels as follows 3.25 x 17 front with a 120/70 tire and 4.25 x 17 rear with a 160/60 tire.
Problem is I have been reading a lot of projects on this forum and have seen a few guys fit standard diameter rims with slightly wider that standard tires which look great - but they have had standard front suspension.
The other problem is I haven't been able to see any bikes which have the GSXR front end with the 17 inch wheels and wider tires that I was originally planning.
And I am now thinking 3.25 x 19 front with a 120/70 tire and 4.25 x 18 rear with a 160/60 tire.
Is there anyone out there who has fitted GSXR front and standard rear suspension with 17 rims and matching tires and have photos that I can see a finished result.
Or anyone who has done the same front end conversion with the 19" front rim and 18" rear rim (which is what I am leaning towards now).
I know this is a matter if taste and the adjustable triple will obviate any handling argument by keeping trail within the factory engineered bounds....and the quality of available rubber being very high either way I go. I also know the 17" option will lower ride height, but I'm not planning to do any scratching with this bike.
And it would be great to see a whole bunch of photos of all the great bikes you guys have built.
Please, if you post photos can you kindly note the size of rims and tires fitted.
Cheers and thanks heaps for any advice or direction.
Pete
