Hey Bud - sorry to hear but understand.  Let me know when you come up this way.

The buddy of mine you met at the Harvest Classic and I have been trying to get back to the Hill Country and ride the three sisters.  When I get the v-twin back together that's the plan.  You're welcome to join us.  I've only ridden one of the sisters.

I would like to have the 750 finished for the Harvest Classic.  Don't know if I'll make it.  I still don't have an engine.  That's the biggie.

I got the bobber torn down today.  I got the new turn out exhaust tips welded in place before I pulled the exhaust.  I started stripping the frame.  Depending on how it goes I think I'm just going to leave the motor and tranny in the frame and paint around it.  Time is precious on this project.

I'll try not to post too many photos of the bobber.

I got the bobber frame stripped and painted.  Came out great!  I went with Deltron instead of Shopline.  Both are PPG products, but Deltron seems to be far superior, at least in this case.  Shopline single stage seems to be too soft and it chips too easily.  Probably not as many solids as Deltron.  I've used Shopline base coat/clear coat before without issue, but not crazy about the single stage.  I'm going to go ahead and shoot the CB750 frame with Deltron, and redo a few of the parts I've already painted.  Seems like the way to go.

I left the engine and tranny in the frame.  I just don't have the time pull it and reinstall it.  I was careful to mask it off well.  I doubt anyone would guess it was painted with the engine in the frame.

Getting close to finishing the v-twin bobber.  Everything has been either repainted, polished or replaced.

Done!  Probably won't be able to get back on the CB until after Sturgis.

I'm back on the CB750.  I've been sanding parts for the last few weekends.  I've got the frame all ready to go along with a bunch of parts that will get painted black next Saturday if the weather is decent.  The gas tank is block sanded and ready for some more primer.

I've started the assembly.  Still need some new parts, like axle adjusters, brake rod, etc.  I don't want to get too far into it because I still don't have an engine.  Hoping to find one after the holidays.

YSS E-302 330mm.  I got them from Moto Madness.  The eyelets are a little narrow.  I got some rubber washers to fill in the gaps.  Also the zinc plated clevis bolts look cheap.  I'm going to get some stainless or chrome bolts.  Other than that they seem pretty decent.

I really wanted to use Joker Machine headlight ears, but I just couldn't justify spending $200 for them.  I opted for the cheaper Emgo ears and drilled them to lighten the look.  I'm going to glass bead them and repaint them.  I should have bought the silver ones since I'm going to paint them.  Wouldn't have saved me a few bucks more.

$200 is a bit steep for a pair of ears....

Yeah, that's 1/3 to 1/2 the price of an engine.

This seal is part of the All Balls front wheel bearing kit.  I can't identify it on the parts diagram or in my pile of old parts.  It's the larger of two seals in the kit.  I know where the smaller seal goes.  Is this for another model?  I see the kit fits a bunch of bikes.

Upon closer inspection that seal appears to be for the speedo drive.

Scratch that.  It's not a speedo drive seal.

That's paint...it was me that sprayed it.

Was hoping to have the triple trees installed yesterday too, but I hit a couple of snags.  Nothing that can't be fixed.  Going to visit my buddy at his machine shop this afternoon and get those issues taken care of.

Now that I know all the steering parts fit I can take it all back apart and pack the bearings.

These are the Cycle X trees.  The only real problem was with the hex key bolts they use for steering stops.  I couldn't get the bottom tree all the way in.  The bolts were hitting the bottom of the neck, like the bolts weren't quite far enough apart.  I had my buddy turn down the diameter of the bolt heads and the tree slid right into place.

Hey glad you got it sorted and that it was a fairly easy fix.

One thing that i learned from a Harley guy back in the day is that if possible, when using a bolt as a steering stop pin, and the hole goes all the way through, is to use a long hardened bolt and install it up from underneath.  That way if it ever sheers off, you can just unwind it from the bottom and install a new one, rather than having the head sheer off and needing to go at it with easy outs.

Anyway, those trees look tasty.

Reading back though I see that you're not planning to run a front fender.  Be aware that the fender bracket is a structural member that is intended to help keep the fork from twisting, it supports the upper ends of the fork lowers.  You will get more flex in the front end without it.
