Nice.  Wher'd ya get that plate, Bud?

Found it on Craigslist.  Had to drive to north Houston, but it was worth the trip.

The primary tensioner arrived.  I can finally put the cases back together.

The tank is sanded and ready for paint.

Hopefully I'll be flinging paint onto the cases and the tank this weekend.

CycleX.  I tried to do their chrome exchange deal, but they were out of parts.  They actually send them out and have them done by another shop.  I'm pretty sure I got back the parts I sent them.  It's not show chrome, but it's not bad.  Plenty good enough for a daily rider.

I haven't heard of any decent chrome shops in Houston.  I would think with all the car and bike stuff in Austin there would be a quality chrome shop there.

There is only one.  I had my K4 mufflers rechomed there a couple years back.

David is the owner of CenTex Plating, he is very expensive and busy but does a great job.

Many shops around the country wont do exhaust, they dont want to contaminate their tank.  Browns, the most respected plater in the country, recently closed.

How about ceramic coating?

After your previous post I looked up Chrome shops in Houston.  Speed & Sport seems to have a good rep.

I have an exhaust sitting at my powdermans shop waiting for a gloss black ceramic coat.

I've seen the "chrome" ceramic, looks cheap, would not recommend.

I think the chrome ceramic needs an extremely smooth finish to get a good result.  Even so, it is not chrome.  It provides a mirror-esque appearance but not a clear consistent reflection like a mirror.

At lunch time today I went to the auto paint supply store to get the paint for my gas tank and I saw some advertising cards on the counter for a place here in Houston called Grand Designz that does what looks like that chrome paint stuff.  What caught my attention was the last statement on their card that said, "Armorchrome is Thermal Resistant up to 350°F. Additional/Extreme Thermal Resistance Protection (-50°F up to 2,200°F) can be Achieved via our Patented Ceramic Nanocoatings."  The photos on the card looked pretty good for chrome paint, not like other chrome paint I've seen or "chrome" ceramic coating.  I didn't see any motorcycle exhausts though.

Thanks guys.  Hoping it will compliment the walnut and not clash.  I got some Mercedes Light Ivory for the stripes to emulate the basswood stripes.

I got the cases back together.  I was hoping to get the bottom end painted this weekend, but these things always take longer than I think.  A little de-greasing and masking and it'll be ready for paint.
