Looking good! Is the tail staying au naturel or getting stained to a similar tone as the tank?

Thanks.  It will get clear coated and turn much darker.

Yeah, the last thing you'd want is to leave the wood unfinished and slap a greasy paw on there! ;)

Got my own greasy paws on it plenty of times so far.  If left unfinished I would never be able to wash the bike or ride it in the rain, or should I say get caught in the rain.

After that much work on a seat, you wouldn't want to make it a single-use item.

You're 100% correct.  That's why it's going to be encapsulated in a very shiny acrylic urethane cocoon.

Rain?  It never rains in TX, Bud!

Of course our last two rides were cancelled due to rain though!

Seems like it rains more than not lately, especially when I speak the word "motorcycle".

I rode to work yesterday.  Looks like I might be able to again on Friday.

We're tentatively planning on heading your direction the weekend of 6/11...<sigh>if the weather cooperates.

I hope you finish your build at least a month before or after Steve S's Sweep The Floor #2 bike. I would really hate to have to choose between them in their inevitable bike of the month appearances.

I am really digging the overall look, proportions look really nice and of course that tail section is pretty sweet. However, it does look to me like the headlight is a little high and or out of place, perhaps that just because the instruments are not mounted yet.

It would be an honor to be no mates for BOTM.  My goal is to have it finished in September so I can show it at the Harvest Classic in Lukenbach, TX in October.

The headlight may or may not be in its final resting place.  I don't think the ears are fully tightened at the moment.  When all parts are on the bike some things may get adjusted.

Just checking what the chrome looks like against the painted engine.

"Excellent", is what.

Is it just the lighting, or are the cases more of a satin finish than a gloss?

Thanks.  I'm digging it.  It's got the look I'm shooting for.

It's a glossy finish.  It's catalyzed acrylic urethane, but it's single stage so it doesn't have the gloss that a base coat/clear coat has.

Is it not quite black?  Charcoal or graphite colored maybe?

Again it may just be a trick of the lighting, but it doesnt seem as black as the fins.

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing stacked up, that's always a great point to reach on these builds.

It's labeled "gun metal gray" on the can.  I like the color scheme of old panhead motors...silver heads, black jugs, silver cases with all the aluminum and chrome parts, but I didn't think the CB750 cases would look good silver for my project.  I think the gun metal gray will make the engine a little more interesting to look at.
