Thanks for the info.  You would think someone would have come out with a billet aftermarket version by now.  If I can't find one in the next week or so I think I'm going to have my machinist buddy make one.  He's the guy that gave me the bike.  I saw him this morning and told him about it and he said he broke four of them.  Lol!

Or Bill Benton. He's bound to have at least 100 squirreled away  8)

I posted in the Wanted section and Bill replied.  Just paid for one.

I got the clutch lifter plate from Bill today.  It doesn't have the little stem on the piece that goes through the center of the bearing like the other two broken ones I have.  Is there any reason why the one I got from Bill won't work?

I didn't break the lifter plate replacement I got from Bill.  Yoo-hoo!  The center piece popped out of the bearing with a little tap so I replaced it with one that has the center stem.  Clutch is installed completely.

I also rebuilt the starter, tested it and got it installed.

When I scrolled up, and this engine shot came into view, I was blinded by the chrome-like shine! Looks amazing.

Hah!  I had the covers chromed.  I did polish them a little bit 'cause they've been sitting around for a while and have gotten a little dirty and dusty, but that's all the credit I can take.

The wiring supplies are coming in.  More stuff arriving tomorrow.  I probably have enough for at least two bikes.

I wasn't 100% happy with the seat so I recovered it.  The leather I used the first time was too thick and I couldn't get it wrapped around the edges of the seat pan cleanly.  I used some thinner leather this time and got much better results.

Awesome build, except for one thing. No offense, but in my opinion, those 750 letters belong on a mailbox, not on this beautiful bike. The quality of everything is top notch, then you have those stickers. They just look too cheap, and shade-treeish. No offense meant, just an opinion.

Shade tree, my backside.  I spent a lot of time designing that aspect.  I like it.  I think it adds a bit of an old school race element to the build.

I shot the firsts coats of clear on the tail section.  Gotta let this cure for a week, sand it and hit with some more coats until all the wood grain is filled.

Hey, if YOU like it, that's all that matters. Forgive me for the unsolicited opinion. Can't wait to see the final product. Awesome bike.

Thanks, fellers.  The basswood stripes came out more orange than I was hoping.  I used it because of the pale color.  I've worked with it before, but never used this particular urethane clear on it.  The clear is water white, no yellow tint.  Don't know why it turned so dark.  I knew it wasn't going to be a perfect match to the stripes on the tank, but was hoping I'd be close.  Oh, well.  Gonna run with it.  On the other hand, the walnut matches the Sunset Bronze Mica almost perfectly.

Basswood is quite soft so dents easily, I'm familiar with it as a wood used in guitar making.... ;)

That's what I've used it for, but I always put a hard finish on it.  The stuff I used on my rear tail piece was more dense and a little heavier than what I've used before.
