First ride today. Just did five miles on her. The biggest thing I noticed right away was that she's totally unlike my other bike. Who would have thunk.

All in all I'm pretty happy. I still need to do some tuning, but she seems like she's pretty close. Gotta get it insured, inspected and registered before I can do any serious breaking in.

Thanks, Mike. Feels great to finally enjoy some of the fruit. I just retarded the timing a little bit and took it for another spin. Takes off smoother now.

I'm calling my insurance guy tomorrow. Got a buddy who owns a bike shop who will inspect it for me. Then off to the DPS. I sure hope they let me register the vintage plate.

Ya that is cool. I have been looking for a decent vintage cycle plate for mine. That looks perfect.

I found that plate on Craigslist. Just kind of stumbled upon it. It's NOS. Was never installed.

Now that I've ridden it I've decided to call the bike, or at least refer to it as "The Café Tracer"...café racer with tracker handlebars. Works for me.

Thanks Steve. I'm going to register it as a Classic. With my luck I'll get pulled over 100's of miles from my house and I don't want to try and explain that I was on my way to ride it in a parade.

I got the bike inspected today. After work I rode it to my buddy's shop. He's the guy that gave me the bike in basket case condition. He wants to buy it now. He knows that if/when I do decide to sell it, it ain't going to be cheap. It was his first motorcycle. I really want to put some miles on it before I even think about selling it.

Now that I've got about sixty miles on the bike the right fork seal started leaking. The seals came with the Cycle X fork tubes. The left one started leaking during the build so I replaced it months ago, way before I put any miles on the bike. I remember reading a post where somebody else had problems with the Cycle X fork seals.

When I replaced the left one I bought a set. Now I have to remember what I did with the other one. I know what I'll be doing Saturday.

On the K4 , drain oil on the offending fork, block up bike, remove wheel fender and brake if needed.
Then remove allen bolt from bottom to get slider off..dont need to mess with lights and triple trees.
Wayyy faster..

I pulled the wheel already. I'm going to let the fork drain until I can get back to it on Saturday. I'm running aftermarket triple trees. It's not a big deal to pull the fork. I have to pull it any way to fill it back up with oil. Easier to pull the fork than to pull the handlebars to get access to the fork caps.

Thanks. Working out the bugs. Just got the new fork seal installed and did some adjustments. About to attempt 50 miles on it.

Ok. I got my 50 miles in today. I didn't stray more than about 10 miles from home. I kept close so I could return to the house and make adjustments as necessary. Nothing broke or fell off. I'm getting used to the ride. It's moderately stiff, but still way smoother than my rigid bobber.

The engine runs pretty good. When the bike is in neutral it has great throttle response, but when I put it in gear I'm getting some hesitation when taking off, probably around 1500-2000 rpm. I have to get the rpm's up for a smooth take off. Same thing when cruising at slower speeds and I give it a bit more throttle. I'm having a bit of a struggle trying to dial in the lower rpm range. What might cause that? I'm pretty sure it's carb related. I think it may be running a bit rich too.

Mine loves the 4k and higher range. It really runs nice in that area. I am still having charging issues. I had to chuckle a bit when you mention that the CB is a bit smoother of a ride than the hardtail HD.

Yeah the CB engine smooths fine out at higher rpm's.

The roads around here are horrible. I've gotten really good at whipping around potholes and lousy asphalt patches on the rigid, but sometimes it's like riding a bucking bronco. It's not so bad on the CB.

I rode my rigid bobber today for the first time since I got the Tracer rideable and been riding it all week. While I wasn't looking someone snuck into my shop and lowered the seat on the bobber, moved the foot boards way forward, raised the shifter lever, raised the handlebars, increased the low end torque and put better brakes on it. Weird thing is I can't find evidence of tampering.
