78 CB550K Misfiring issues
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:36:37 PM »
I need some direction and I hope someone has some good suggestions.
Symptoms
-Bike has a difficult time starting. Sounds like it is fighting itself.
-Runs more smoothly as it warms up.
-When I have the timing light on the 1.4 the timing mark "bounces"
-New 2.3 point is arcing
-When hooking up the timing light over plug three it seems to only intermittently get a spark signal.
-When checking the spark it looked more orange than blue with the old plugs, ultimately why I thought I would change them

This is what I have done hoping to solve the problem
-New points, gapped and timing as close as I can get it.
-New spark plugs..gapped
-Valves checked and adjusted
-New battery this year (throwing the charger on it now to see if that helps)
-Vacuum balanced the carbs

There is some question in my mind to wether or not I did the valve adjustment properly because I have seen conflicting posts online. I have a clymer manual that covers 550's through 77, but try to use forums on this site for guidance and verification.
Please let me know what details are needed to help solve this problem of mine.

Thanks
