found these steel balls in my oil pan tonight
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:04:42 PM »
After an oil change tonight I found these three steel balls in my oil pan. They appear to be ball bearings of some kind. I drained an old bottle nose jack in the same pan moments before so I know its from one or the other? Look familiar to anyone? My bike is a 1978 cb750k and has been runningwell... thanks!

Good idea to pull engine and check inside, all bearings, crankshaft has small balls covering holes.
It might be more stuff in there.

Hi.I would imagine if any of those balls were from inside engine you would also be seeing pieces of cage in the oil.If machine is running fine with no weird noises I would not be too concerned but I think you should drop the oil pan at least to check for any debris stuck to scavenge pump pickup. This is a good idea periodically in any event.

If the crank loses one of it's oil passage stopper balls the oil pressure will quickly go to hell and the crank will be toast shortly thereafter.

balls from bearings should be shiney.
