Topic: replace fork springs

So I have 81 CB650, and I ordered new progressive springs for the front fork.. all the how-to's I read show the fork is capped with a 24mm nut..

but..

my bike does not,   the right side looks like it has an air valve cap, but the two forks appear to have a hydrolic line connecting them together.  Ive not been able to find any other reference of a similar setup.. 

so how do I take the forks apart?  dissconnect the hydrolic hose and put an adjustable wrench on the caps and unthread?

That is not a hydraulic kine - It is an air line between the forks - It balances the air in each fork.  This is why you only have on Schrader valve for adding air.   Air assist in forks is not uncommon.

why thange this adjustabel airspring system...think it work fine...better then a stock 550/650

It's a kit that was pretty common. You can re-use it or buy new caps. I'd proceed with the springs either way.

You can run them like normal and ignore air assist until you have it set up. If you want to mess around with tweaking and tuning you can run them. Otherwise just pop your springs and replace the old oil while you are at it. That way you know you have the proper oil level in there too.
